Firebox to Tire

Good Evening,

I am building a tandem axle trailer and was wondering how far away from an uninsulated firebox the tires needed to be? I am wanting to get the rear axle back as far as I can but also keeping the tire a safe distance from the heat of the firebox.

Thanks,

Re: Cooking Rack Spacing

Thanks Big T, it is coming along. With the 7” how much space did that leave you on the top rack?

Cooking Rack Spacing

Good Evening, I am getting ready to add the top rack guides in my 250 gallon build. I am thinking 7” above the bottom rack but before I did I thought I’d ask to see what others have done. My tank diameter is 30”. Also wanted to post some pics of the tuning plates and bottom rack guides. The tuning pl...

Trailer Help

Greetings All, I am getting ready to start laying out my trailer for my 250-gallon build, but I am not a trailer builder and figure that there are a lot of folks here that are. I want to build a 16' x 8' wide tandem axle trailer with 2/3500-pound axles. What size/length of axles do I need and would ...

Re: Updated Pics

Thanks guys, it is coming along good. I picked up the angle iron for the fire rack grates today and priced some bar grating. Geeze that has gone up a lot, so I may need to figure out another way to build the fire grate. I know one thing, having the metal sheared makes a world of difference. For what...

Updated Pics

I was able to do a little more on my 250 build. I finally got started on my firebox and thought I would share a few pics.

I decided to insulate the top only with 2” 1200* insulation. The door is doubled and is 1/2” thick. I went for an Industrial look for the firebox.

Enjoy!

Thanks Fattdaddy

Re: New 250 Gallon Build

Hey Sir, I struggled between square with a round insert, square and fully insulated but finally settled on a square firebox. WelI somewhat square, 30"x27"x24" with a 2" insulated top. I just went and bought the steel yesterday, OMG! prices are soaring, but walked out with 2- 4x8x1/4" sheets of steel...

Re: Lets Talk Paint

Thanks for the input guys, Frank how will the Eastwood stand up on the cook chamber and can you also use it on the firebox? I was looking at the Cerakote air cure but not sure if the tank would have to be stripped down to bare metal for it to adhere.

Lets Talk Paint

If you tuned into Frank and Titus Friday, paint was a topic at one point. Titus said he has used "Imron" and has good results. Just wondering what else anyone else uses. I would really like to find a High Temp Gloss Black for this new 250 build. On past builds I have always resorted to Rust-Oleum Sa...

Re: New 250 Gallon Build

Thanks, I had a vision of what I wanted this one to look like and I had several pieces of stainless plate and tubing left over from other builds. Figured I’d try to put it all to good use.

Re: New 250 Gallon Build

Good eye! I have those on both sides of the collector. I made two brushed stainless steel name plates with spacers behind the to keep them from laying on top of the steel and for the 3d effect. Re: Door Trim

Yes sir, that is exactly what I was talking about. I am thinking about trying to put a bend in the 2” strap before I weld it on and will be using gaskets under the strap. I built a 500 gallon smoker in the past and don't remember having this problem. I also thought about using 1 1/2” strap instead o...

Door Trim

Good Evening, I am in the process of a 250 gallon traditional off set build. I have a tank that is 30” in diameter across the center. I am wanting to use 2” strap for the outer door seals. When I dry fit the top and bottom strap to the door the strap does not lay flat to the tank. I have some ideas ...

Re: Throat Opening Placement

Thanks for the input. The only other thing if someone could help me out with is the throat size (opening from FB to CC). I could do either a rectangle or trapizoid.
Here are my measurements 250 gal tank, 6” round stack, square FB 27”x30”x24”.

Thanks in Advance!

Throat Opening Placement

I am starting into a 250 gallon build and was getting ready to make the cut into the tank for the firebox. I have found the center of tank and am wondering if the top of my firebox should come into the CC at grate height or under? I plan on using tuning plates so my initial thought was to have the t...
