Re: Firerope Gasket

I was having the same problem with a leaky old smoker and fire rope gaskets. I went to Menards and in detail described my problem and my idea. Of course the helper wasn't much of a solution helper, but did offer some insight on the gasket sealer. He told me to make sure to heat the seal with a torch...

Re: New to forum

I am in the same boats, lots of ideas, little material, and confused. I am also new to this site, but have found it is very informative and these guys answer as soon as they can, other sites are like pulling teeth to get a reply. I was even thinking that with the promptness of replies that I got thi...

Re: Setting up my own

I am definetly thinking non sanctioned, but using rules from the kcbs guidelines. I can line up at least 12 teams if we get this scheduled soon enough. I just want unique and fun ideas. Maybe make em smoke a tur-duck-in LOL.

Setting up my own

I was recently approached by some city employees in my home town. They told me that they were looking for an event to help draw people into town during their summer celebration day on June 2 of 2012. They said they heard that I was a BBQ guy and had been doing some competition. They were wondering i...

Re: Chad from Iowa

Just tried it. It told me the pixels and mine were wide. I originally designed this for a 3x7 banner so I understand why it's to long.

Re: First Competition

In the few comps that I have done, I have found that my favorite part is the turn ins. After all of the anticipation during the day and the sleepless nights for countless days before hand, I get so nervous I could puke. This is my favorite part it reminds me of a week long roller coaster ride. Of co...

Re: My first MOD

That reminds me Edna's kid. At the first cook-off my beef category was steak, very simple just with my own rub. As I sat there all day and watched all of these expensive grills roll in and get setup I kept laughing inside because of my ace in the hole. People would ask me what I was doing and they k...

Re: My first thought of my future build.

It's just a thought anyway. I was looking at the flat top where I work and of course they use gas for the heat, but I was trying to think of a way to eliminate cold spots on that grill and just tried to apply it to a smoker. Seems like every thought I get in my head recently will eventually become r...

My first thought of my future build.

I am wondering if an idea I have would be plausible. What I have gathered from reading the past few hours, in a reverse flow there is a plate that runs between the cook area and the "bottom of the cooker. (not sure what that area is called technically). Inside this area we need to control heat and a...

Re: Chad from Iowa

I just realized that my posts get a little long. I hope that you all don't get fed up with my posts, but I'm a story teller and love the theatrics. Details are what make the story interesting to me. Sorry for being long, but this stuff excites me so much that I can hardly contain it. It has taken me...

My first MOD

I bought a char-broil vertical smoker from wal-mart. The price was right at $125 and seemed like a vertical is what I wanted at the time. The downfall was that it was propane. Don't get me wrong, propane is good smoke too, but it can't be used in KCBS events. I found this out at one of my local even...

Re: First Competition

I watched some competition on T.V. and thought that this lifestyle would be so fun. When I got word that there was going to be a competition at our local county fair (basically no rules) I knew that I was going to enter. Pretty basic. Four categories chicken, beef, pork, and other. I entered all fou...

Re: Another Disappointing Meal

I realize that this topic is relatively old, but I would still like to add some. I work as a cook in a steakhouse. How can you go wrong with steak right? Since I have been working there the food has gotten worse. It can't be the cooking, I am the cook. Because of the evolution of my taste buds nothi...

WOW!!!

Holy Smoke, I love this place. I joined just a short while ago and have only read a few posts, but dang I can't leave. The bad part is that I have to be to work in 45 mins. Just reading other peoples posts and topics has enlightened me immensely. I know that I have come to the right place to get the...

Chad from Iowa

Hello everyone. I found this site while, you guessed it, looking for smoker plans. I bought my first smoker at wal-mart. It was a char-broil vertical propane smoker. After smoking a few things and deciding that all of this food would be better if I made my own rubs and sauces, I started toting aroun...
