Chimney question

First build, reverse flow smoker. I have a length for the chimney, should it be saddle welded to to top or should it protrude into the smoke chamber? If so how far?

Going with a horizontal reverse flow offset. 24 in. .375 wall, 41 in. long smoke chamber, 16 in. .375 wall, 30.750 in. long firebox.
Used the online calculator from Alien Bbq. So I have all the size particulars. Rounding up the rest of the material I need and off I go!
