High School Pizza Oven Build

My students and I prototyped a pizza oven to mass produce in our high school metals class before we were shut down for the year. Here are a few pics of the build and the test firing that the woods teacher and I did two weeks ago. This one is made out of 1/4" mild steel and we had hoped to make one o...

Re: "MACK" Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

The new owner of our semester long welding project picked up his smoker today and was pretty happy with it. Here are a few pictures of the finished project the kids have been working on since November. It turned out pretty awesome. Part of the reason he may have been so happy is it only cost him mat...

Re: "MACK" Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

We are getting really close to being done! We have to finish the wood box, add safety chains, wire it and paint it and it is out the door. We are just building it for cost, but I am curious what this thing would sell for? What is a realistic estimate?

We got a little more done today. Smokestacks, latches and thermometers installed. Couple of more latches on the firebox end and we are ready to muscle it on the trailer! Hope no one gets crushed!

Re: "MACK" Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Clover- I am confused, what I hear you guys saying is that the throat opening needs to be adjustable with a slider? Or, are you saying the opening to the warming chamber from the cooking chamber needs the slider? Or, Both? My concern is that the opening from the Firebox to the cooking chamber is the...

Re: "MACK" Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Your scaring me now. What do I need to know about the opening? If we get much further along it is going to be hard to access and modify. Let me know if you know what changes need to be made.
Thanks

"MACK" Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Well Frank we have spent about a month figuring out the details, and here is the result so far. My students liked your MACK smoker and found a guy in town willing to buy it when it is done, so we dived in and are making our own version of MACK. Here is the progress so far. Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: I finally get to keep a smoker I built!!

This lid had no holes, I had to cut my own. I would like to make the one bigger to get a little more draft, it is 1 1/2" and I think 2" would be better. I added another upright with another valve on the opposite side for more draft control and also less bending over! I am very impressed with the eas...

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

The Fire Dept. were amazed at the work our kids did. Here are a few pics of the Mayor the fire chief and quite a few of the firefighters at the little ceremony we had. The newspaper covered the whole thing and a good time was had by all. We even had a ceremonial lighting of the discada burner by the...

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

So I brought the smoker home today to burn it out before we paint it. Here are a few pics, it worked beautifully, nice and consistent about 250 degrees with a charcoal fire and all the dampers wide open.

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

Here is a little work we did on the counterweight. It was a littel light and I did not want to just weld up a bunch of random metal. It is actually a trace of the newest fire truck in town and the kids thought that we neede flames for the caps on the tube! Also one of the two discada's that is going...

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

We are still plugging away on our build. Had a few setbacks but we are back on track and we hope to be able to finish it by the end of the month! We have the smoker "done" at this point. Counter weight and bling still needs to be added. The trailer needs fenders, a wood box, two propane burners and a...

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

So we made a few more changes to the trailer, it turns out it was a little to tall at the cooking surface so we had to flip the axle inside the springs. The axle was then to close to the middle supports we had put in for the fire wood box on the opposite side of the trailer. Had to take the smoker b...

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

The initial fitting is done and we found that the frame was strong enough being made out of angle. That being said, you guys put an inkling of doubt in my mind and we boxed in the 2x2x3/16 side rails today. Here are a few pics of the initial fitup. We have taken it all backa part after taking measur...

Re: Here we go, our first big build!

Here are a few update pics. We started the trailer out of 3/16 x 2 x 2 angle with a 3500 lb axle and 15" tires. We have to figure out how to get the 600+ lb smoker hoisted in place next week. Othe than that it is going pretty smooth.
