Re: Smoker build progress

The weight makes it possible to open with one hand, without I couldn’t properly do that.
It’s a solid steel bar. Can always add more if I grow old and weak :-)

Smoker build progress

Thanks for thinking with me.
So the rust will come off with oil treatment?
Then sandblasting would be a waste of money.

I plan on treating it with oil every few months.
Spray some lineseed oil on it after a cook maybe.

Re: Smoker build progress

To get rust off?
Not a good idea?
Some plates also have some printed numbers on them.
Thought samdblasting would give it an even look.

Installing thermometer

I’d like some ideas and experience on installing the thermometer. I have tell tru’s (from frankelin :-) ..). I can put them in where the rod is parallel to the grate or I can install them perpendicular to the door. Any thoughts? I have 4 of them[emoji56] 2 for bodem grate and 2 for top. https://uplo...

Re: Smoker build progress

Almost done! Only the thermometers and a grease drain. Now it’s off to the sandblaster and then for some oil. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210515/1a3bc32ffbbed4086b43e758762c4350.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210515/a8414edc446e53e6810cbd7133418d87.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com...

Re: Smoker build progress

The stack was build using a bent peace to optimize the airflow, the 90 degres piece makes it horizontal, didn’t see that coming but will pull the hotspot back away from the grate I suppose [emoji56] The legs are inward a bit, not sure what you mean, but the other picture had a better angle maybe so ...

Re: Smoker build progress

Okay, emtpy the tray once every 12 hours sounds reasonable[emoji56]

I have the idea from one of the threads here with a little sliding door with a chain. Looked nice. I can always add that if this doesn’t work well enough.

Re: Smoker build progress

Thanks, the neighbour helping me had a great idea for the wheels.
He had brass bearings and he gave me brass nipples to install so we could fill the axis with grease[emoji1377][emoji56]
Rolls like a charm.

Re: Smoker build progress

Since today it has wheels! Perfect weight balance. Once I put the stack on it’ll be heavier so won’t tip over as easy. Pretty cool. The small legs at the FB side will come off once the stack is on. Wheels where fun to build. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210428/a2579e62c7bb3a6731b47fc327b78445....

Re: Smoker build progress

Hey Hoga, yes wheels….not a good idea?
I’ll put smaller wheels on the front legs also, drawing doesn’t show that.
