Re: First Build advice needed

Hi All! I have been given an old expansion tank for free, it is 60 gallon and 1/8th inch thick metal. Was wondering if it is worth my time using for a smoker? I do live in Canada and propane tanks are rare to come by, so options are limited. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers! Daniel Al...

Re: First Ever Build/Never Welded Before

And don't fear the top of the throat being blocked off, they work awesome built this way, some might even say they work way better :-) ;)

Re: First build + vlog

Has anyone ever applied linseed oil on a cold cooker? Guys do it for cars all the time to retain their vintage patina. Will it work for a cooker or will it start to darken as soon as you heat it up with a cook anyways? Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk Many times! I only use linseed oil on smokers...

Re: First time build..firebox to insulate or not to insulate

Any thoughts on semi-insulated/air gap insulation?Wouldn’t save much on materials, but if the air gap keeps the exterior cool enough to be safe, while letting the firebox operate more like an un insulated box, it could be a win/win Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Basically all the same thing - s...

Re: First time build..firebox to insulate or not to insulate

I'd go un-insulated on a little 60 gallon as well, just my 2 cents after having used both in smaller size offsets. Echoing what others have said - gets almost too hard to keep the fire going, or since you burn so much less wood you end up with that much less flavor.

Re: Air scoop and baffle plate

I'm sure your plan will work out just great! The baffle idea is pretty much the same as Jambo Pits style throat and baffle. Have a look at the video of one, and best of luck with the build.

Re: 110 Gallon Patio Model

I couldn't remember which builder(s) utilized the type I was thinking about, but it's Mill Scale. I really like the firebox latch, I mean the rest of the build is great too :-) :-)

Re: 110 Gallon Patio Model

Beautiful work yet again, Hogaboomer!! I vote for the big fat handle type of pivoting latch/handle. That's one classy looking firebox and door, so it deserves a classy latch! :)

Re: First build + vlog

I hit a little road block while working on the firebox and I am back to looking for some materials so I'm going to be shifting focus towards the cook chamber once I get back to it in the next couple weeks. I know I have a little bit of spring in my cook chamber door. What is the point at which you ...
