Re: Powder coating smokers?

If not using powder coating, what paint do most of you guys use on the smokers? I'm building a reverse flow trailer mounted smoker. Just sandblast and then use high temp engine paint from autostore? Maybe I should post this as a new topic?

Re: Smoke Stack Length and Butterfly Valve

i will get some pics of the inside and post, not a problem. I'll get exact measurement of the end gap to see if it needs to be dampered. my temps were after about 2.5 hours of burning, but i will say that was with flue dampers wide open and FB damper wide open. I read KAMs post on another thread and...

Re: Smoke Stack Length and Butterfly Valve

Rick, it can get cold around here, so my truck is out and the wife's SUV is toasty. Figure that at least helps offset the $$ I keep spending on the smoker! Tom, I had to LOL at "I'm just say'in" comment, b/c I have a 11 year-old girl who skates around being a complainer by saying "I'm not complainin...

Re: Smoke Stack Length and Butterfly Valve

you guys are exactly right! no pics stink. without ya'lls help, I wouldn't be this far. KAMs pics were invaluable (as you can see from from firebox damper) we fired it up without racks for the first time yesterday. it was built according to smoker calc spreadsheet on the web. firebox is 2'x2'x3' and...

Re: Smoke Stack Length and Butterfly Valve

The stacks are 4" pipe and the first posting was 2' and 4' for length, not 2" and 4" diameter. I may not have made that clear.

after three attempts, I got the double butterfly valve working, but need to finish welding up the "bushings" without warping anything so it still works afterwards!

Re: Smoke Stack Length and Butterfly Valve

I love the half and half vent idea. Never saw that one coming, but after seeing pics of Edgar, I can see the inspiration! I have my stack outlets cut and no room for an interior slider with outboard controls, so the half iris and butterfly are still on the table. All the great ideas and prevention o...

Smoke Stack Length and Butterfly Valve

hello all! I have used the BBQ calculator for all my dimensions and sizing. now i am ready to install smoke stacks. Three questions: 1) For esthetics, I want 2 smoke stacks side by side. Does this mean I can take the total recommended BBQ calculator smoke stack and divide by two? Meaning two 2'-stac...

Re: How to Install Chamber doors and hinges

I got the first door cut out yesterday and it was alot of grinding! wow. it does look nice and operate well. the dewalt blades worked well and it cost me about $10 in blades to get it cut, but there will be minimal smoothing required. My nest question is gonna be on media blasting and paint, but I s...

How to Install Chamber doors and hinges

Hello. I'm ready to cut the doors on my tanks and get hinges installed. I bought some of the 5" weld-on barrel hinges by Baer/Intercon that KCBBQ sells online. I have looked around here quite a bit and it seems like most people completely cut the doors out and then remount with hinges, but I can't t...

Re: Uneven side to side weight => non-level

you guys were right. i didn't build the trailer and it is a 37" 500gal propane tank on a 72" trailer. i took it to a pro trailer shop i've used for my boat and they said the axle was fine and the spring still had 50% left, but they recommended just upgrading to a 2500lb spring on the tank side to le...

Uneven side to side weight => non-level

Hi there. first post about my first smoker. I've got a tank, firebox and warming oven mounted on my trailer. We mounted it off center like I have seen many do, but it is squatting the mounted side over 1.5" lower than the "unloaded" side. can I use a stronger spring or air bag or something to level ...
