Re: First RF build down here in Australia

I accidentally smashed my phone and lost the progress photos. Sorry I'm surprised how well it holds temp. Doesn't seem to matt...

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

Finally found some time to get a bit done. Life and kids always getting in the way of projects. Baffle plate in. CC door almost ready fit. And almost finished the firebox door. Not entirely happy with how the intake turned out but it works pretty good just a bit stiffer than i wanted. Im also a bit ...

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

Got the FB and CC tacked together and the baffle plate templated. My throat area is ~22 square inches and i made the BP end gap ~20.3 square inches. From what ive read this should be good but let me know your thoughts. Looks like ill have to cut it in two peices to fit it through the CC door.[emoji...

Old markings, the steel plate came from the floor in the old power station.
I left that one on for character.

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

Really starting to come together now! Im getting the meat sweats just looking at it. Decided to put the FB on the left side so the smoke stack is further away from the house. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210907/7c06ddbebcc33b0aa56c88dc289803c5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210907/75de...

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

[emoji123][emoji123] Nearly all of the steel including the tanks came from my town's old decomitioned power staition built in 1978 so im trying to use as much of it as i can, so it'll be a bit of a historical conversation peice. They built things heavy duty back then! Sent from my SM-G975F using Tap...

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

Got the doors cut and flanges tacked on. Please excuse my dodgy welding i was using a $89 stick welder, borrowing a good mig welder next week to weld it in properly. Still need to cut the throat, attatch FB and install BF. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210906/8c87fba1e260a3345ea8bcc76d775f9c.jp...

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

Got a bit more done today. Doors marked out and firbox cut to size. Next job to cut throat, doors and weld flanges on. Could i cut up an old fire blanket in strips and use that as a door gasket? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210820/e9de4b636cba6f62e0c679785a48da77.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-c...

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

Just finalising the design and cutting doors and baffle plate this weekend. Adding a shadow plate to the design, Just to confirm, it should extend off the top of the firebox 20 - 25% of the baffle plate like in this picture? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210820/71a55e23c0fea9c41a57729d86590c6d....

Re: First RF build down here in Australia

I dont mind the beer but i think it suits the covid19 world we live in now lol. I think i might add a grease dam infront of the firebox just for safety, Do you think a drain would be a good idea, that stainless steel trough already has a small one with a ball valve i could just join a pipe to that W...

First RF build down here in Australia

Hello there from Australia. :-bd Finally started this patio smoker build, I have some metalwork and welding experience but im a Carpet layer by trade, so, I thought it would be best to get some feedback on the design before I cut or weld anything. I work in milimeters so i have done my best to conve...

Re: Need help down under!

Thanks. Few proplems im running into with the firebox size, im making it out of the same diameter steel as the cook chamber ~16in because thats what i have on hand but to match the recomended volume would make my firebox only 13.4 inches long which i think might be a bit short? One option would be t...

Re: Need help down under!

Thanks guys, I think im leaning towards the reverse flow design for the ease of having one baffle to weld in. The simpler the better in terms of build. Is it best to have a v shape baffle with grease drain chanel in the middle? Or just have a dam on either end of the baffle and scrape the crud out a...

Need help down under!
