Re: collector efficiency...or not

Thank you for the responses, it will help me lean one way or the other to a decision. Personally, I'm under the impression that if I do change it, it will be better than it was. Having those stack side protrusions sticking out could result in unwanted back-pressure. On the other hand, the vacuum fro...

collector efficiency...or not

Greetings, my 94 gallon offset is up and smoking and I am pleased so far with the results. Yesterday, after adding an upper rack to it, I was looking at my collector chamber and started second guessing my design. I don't think I have any BIG airflow problems, but since smooth laminar(mostly) airflow...

Does firebrick offer any insulation qualities?

Hi there, I'm building a 24x48 standard offset, and I just welded on my firebox on. My firebox is 24x24, steel pipe that the pipe yard calls .330 They claim it was supposed to be 3/8 but it came out a little under. Anyways, it's some heavy stuff. I asked earlier if having a firebox at 150% (accordin...

Re: 94 gallon offset build

Dude, that is really well done. That is what I'm planning to build as well. Like you, I want to take some of the designs from those other brands and combine them. Did you put any kind of baffle or deflector plate in there? How much did a fab shop charge for cutting all your parts? I really like the ...

Re: steel pipe for sale, Portland OR,??

Topic matter closed. Found a 14.6 ft piece of pipe, wall is .330 so they say, stored outside so rusted inside and out, no caps. $50.00 a foot. They'll cut it down for me for a price. Bigfoot Pipe in Puyallup, WA.
I'm officially on my way.

Re: Question on the 24x48 offset plans

Not a problem on door weight. My pipe pieces are 24" diameter, and what I was told was .330 on the wall. In my research that applies to stainless, but in micrometer terms, I believe its in between 5/16 and 3/8, or one of the other. Either way, weight should be no problem.

Question on the 24x48 offset plans

The plans call for 2x1/4 strapping for the door. Is 1/8 too thin? How do you shape the 1/4 for perfect fit?
Thanks.

First build firebox help

Hey guys, just picked up my 24 inch pipe, cut into 48 and 24 inch lengths. Looks like I should've done my home work first. Calculator is showing my firebox at 150%. Looking for ways to reduce cubic inches, and I have at least a couple ideas. I really like the look of the Millscale option of a recess...

steel pipe for sale, Portland OR,??

Anyone else having trouble finding 20,22,or 24 inch pipe for sale in the greater Portland (OR) area? I went to 3 different scrap yards today, no luck. Most all contacts on google are distributors who won't sell it to me. Heading north to the greater Seattle area tomorrow on a couple of leads. Seems ...

Hello from the PNW

Hey there, found this site through Frank's podcasts, and can't wait to get started. I've been cooking on the Pit barrel cooker, and a 22 and 26inch weber, and turning out some great stuff. But, it's time to up my game. Love the idea of the offset smoker, and very much leaning towards 24x48 steel pip...
