Re: Small Vertical Insulated RF Questions

Yep, that is exactly what I am talking about. Feedback/comments on how it might work?
Shadrock wrote:I think you're talking about dividing the back false wall in to thirds and having (2/3) bringing in heat and (1/3) exhausting out to the exhaust stack.

Re: Small Vertical Insulated RF Questions

The exhaust would be in the middle of the back wall, just like on a Backwoods. However, instead of having false walls on the side for the heat to enter, the heat would travel up a false back wall (on either side of the exhaust)

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Small Vertical Insulated RF Questions

I checked and the only plans are for a gravity feed. I do not really want to buy plans, just looking for feedback and information on my ideas. Thanks

Small Vertical Insulated RF Questions

I am getting ready to make a small, vertical, insulated RF smoker. Cooking chamber will be about 16"d and 20"-22" tall. I am planning to make it out of 1" square tube, and sking the inside and out with either 16 or 18 gauge steel. Trying to keep it light and portable for competition use. I have a qu...

Pellet Feed Assemblies-FS

MOD: If this type of post is not allowed, please feel free to move it, or let me know. I have come across 5 complete traeger pellet feed assemblies. Four are from 075 (texas) model, and 1 is from the 070 (lil tex) model. they are complete with fans, auger motors, firepot, auger, and digital controll...

Re: Smokin' Johnny

Hi Rick,

How even are the temps from left to right on this cooker? Are you still using the 055 pellet feed, or did you go with a different one? I am looking at building a cooker similar to this, and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Pete

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I would love to see some pics of your firepots, auger feed and air blower. Also of your grease pan set-up. Cooking whole hogs, have you ever had an issue with grease fires? What are the key things you would do different if you did it again? Thanks! Pete I do use traeger pellets, usually apple for th...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I saw some of the pics of your cooker. Do you have any additional picws you can post? What are you doing for a grease tray? Are you using traeger parts? Would love to know more about your build. My target cooking temp is 275, 300 max. Thanks! Pete I built one that is 3'x6' octagon and run it mostly ...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

Here are a few pics of another larger style cabinet pellet build that I have seen. It is based on a Traeger BBQ125 (Same Size as the traeger 075). Insulated w/1" insulation on the new cabinet. Has 3 shelves, and according to the owner, no problem with 325-350. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

Well, only one way to find out if it will work, and that is to build it. Will take a few weeks, but I am going for it. Worst case is I have to either a 2nd fire pot, or remove the third shelf. I am hoping the 1.5" insulation will help alot, and go from there.......Now, I just need to finalize the pl...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I know that on my traeger, if any substantial amount of grease gets on the heat deflector that is right above the firepot, it will catch fire pretty quick. The grease does not need direct flame contact to ignite, just contact with a surface above 350*.

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

Thanks Rick for the feedback. The main intent of the water pan was to eliminate the chance for a grease fire. If the grease is going into water, then it cannot burn. I would be concerned that if the grease tray was the heat baffle, it would get too hot, and start a fire??? The interior dimensions ar...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

Changed my mind again. Decided I really do not think it needs to be RF, as the fan will assist with moving the heat around. Here is a pic of what I am thinking. The heat will pass along the right and left side of the water pan (about 2 inches on each side. The photo does not show it, but the door wo...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I am now rethinking this cooker and leaning towards a vertical, RF unit that is about 24x36 or 24x40 with 3 shelves. Will make it out of 1.5" tube and fully insulated, with a door that would open up. Any thoughts on a RF pellet feeder? I want to eliminate the chances of a grease fire as much as poss...

Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I am looking to make a large, horizontal pellet grill that is about 24"x48" for the bottom grate, with 24" of head space to allow for a 2nd shelf. I am trying to determing if I can run a grill this large with one pellet assembly/firepot. I plan to use a pellet assembly from Smoke Daddy this is 18" t...
