1 door vs. 2 doors?

Getting ready to start another 250 gallon RF build. Was curious to some opinions on making one big door vs. two smaller doors for the cook chamber. Any pros/cons to either?

Re: 1st 250 Gallon RF Build

Finally got back around to uploading some of the finished photos. I did have some trouble with my gauges fogging up, so that’s why I don’t have any in the pics. We were really pleased with the way it all turned out. http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj522/cjbarnwell/Smoker%20Build/Finished%20Smoke...

Re: 1st 250 Gallon RF Build

Those doors were cut with a torch. We tried at first with a skill saw, but it was very time consuming and expensive (blades don't last long). We put the hinges on the door and tank first before cutting. That helped tremendously. The shape of the curves were fine, for the most part, after cutting. Th...

Just need a paint job and a few odds and ends to finish her up. http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj522/cjbarnwell/IMAG0541_zpsdb76791c.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj522/cjbarnwell/IMAG0540_zps515f828a.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.co...

Re: Temperature Variation in RF Smoker

Thanks for all the tips here guys. I got to fire up the smoker this weekend and use all the advice. The temp came up slow and just hovered around 250 on both ends. Thanks to you Frank for the baffle opening suggestion. It made my fire burn extremely slow. I burned 5 sticks of wood for about 3.5 hrs,...

Temperature Variation in RF Smoker

Hey Guys, Fired up the smoker for the first time this weekend. It is a 250 gallon Rf smoker. I noticed the temperature shot up very fast when we built the fire, about 350 in 15-20 mins. We had all the dampers open. Started closing them off and it settled in around 250. I found myself constantly adju...

Re: 1st 250 Gallon RF Build

rkboyer911 Sorry for the late reply, the dimensions of my tank are 30" dia and roughly 90" long. For me, it is a monster. Finally got to do some more work and post some pictures. The only obstacle we are for seeing is the trailer. Thinking about build one from scratch. Any advise on axle/tire placem...

Re: 1st 250 Gallon RF Build

Can you guys give me some advice on the size of the baffle opening to the cook chamber? If I make it adjustable, how do I figure the max and min sizes of the opening? I thought about using the half circular piece I cut from the fire box to the cooker. My opening to from the firebox to the cooker is ...

Re: 1st 250 Gallon RF Build

Appreciate the compliments on the hinges. We used a 1.5" wide 3/4" thick bar we found in a scrap pile to make those. The piece to the tank was cut about 3" long and the one to the door was cut about 5" long. Then we just lined them up on the tank, figured where we wanted them and where to drill the ...

Re: 1st 250 Gallon RF Build

Below are some more pics of the build. I got the dimensions for the firebox from reading some and using a calculator I found online. Im starting to think is may be too big. It is 32x24x28. Using AutoCAD, I calculated the opening of the fire box to the tank (sorry I dont have a good pic of this) to b...

Hello From NC

I am new to the forum and to smoker building. I am currently in the middle of a 250 Gallon RF build (very similar to SgtGrillz) and I have a million questions. It would be nice to get some feedback on where I have when wrong/right in what I have done so far. I will try upload some pics tonight. Than...
