Re: New Drawings, Need Your Input

One question I have. What is your baffle plate thickness? Since it's essentially the bottom of your warming cabinet, is it 3/16" as well? I'd think you'd be better off with 1/4" there and the rest would be fine at 3/16". I'd be afraid of running in to warping issues what with it being your fire box'...

In the 3rd picture it looks like you've got a couple more in the back ground. Are you planning to crank out a few more?

Re: Welding question

I think, in my opinion, it's more important how your equipment is set up. A poorly set up(voltage, feed rate) mig will not penetrate and get deep enough, but the same is true with stick and tig. I used a stick welder on mine with good results, but if I had the green for a mig at the time then that i...

Big T, I'm in the same boat... 4 grand on a machine is just not going to happen.... I've got a buddy with a Lotos Plasma cutter and they offer a combo unit for $699 brand new. I might go that route...

Re: Gasket Material on first RFS Build question

IMO, I'd go with the longer stack. It will help keep the smoke up over your head and not in your face. I'm sure Gizmo will be along soon to give you some sort of scientific reasoning for his preferance... btw, you don't have a fork lift do you? :BDHorse:

Combo Machines

Ok chaps, I've run across an intriguing machine while doing my Craigslist Crawl this afternoon. It's a combo machine that is TIG/Arc/Plasma Cutter all in one. It's 200 Amps and can run off either 110 or 220v. Has anyone ever used one of these? Is the asking price fair at $775? I'm very interested in...

Re: Homemade cutting board

As far as the price goes, after remodeling our kitchen I had some drops of counter top left over. They made some great cutting boards just as it was. Here is a link to the place we got the stuff, butcher block they have it in 8 feet long pieces too. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/200578...

Are you talking about the 90* piece above the opening? If so, that's to keep rain out of the inlet.

Re: Anyone see this intake as a problem?

That's how I did mine and I love it! My stack has a plate on it that seals flush and my air inlet seals tight, just like yours, which allows me to shut down my smoker totally! I dig it!

Re: Homemade cutting board

If I could make a suggestion.... Put a 3/4" core box bit in your router and put a "juice catcher" trough around the perimeter. Some even run the trough out to one of the corners for dripping into the sink or pouring off some of the goodness for dipping. That's a good idea Pete. I'll need to figure ...

Re: Homemade cutting board

I'd like to Piggy back on here for a second... I've toyed around with the idea of making a brisket sized cutting board for a while. On Sat. I cooked a big one and didn't have anything big enough to prep it on, so that was all I needed to get one done. It's a butcher block 22"x18"x1.5" made of Beech....

The Sams club by me sells the flat for about $4.49lb or the whole brisket for $2.59lb I would rather cut it myself and get the whole thing for the same price. Re: Egor

Ok Gizmo, got another question for you. As it sits in your driveway, the draw bar is holding it level. Are you planning some drop/swing down legs for the front and back to keep it stable when the drawbar is removed? I saw one once that had two static legs on the front and two swing down tongue jacks...
