Re: cannibalized Traeger

Thanks!!! The cook chamber is 32" wide x 24" deep x 42" tall with 5 racks. Its a little big for a couple butts and a flat of beans but it doesn't use anymore pellets than when it was on the thin Traeger cooker, which I guess would be a benefit of the insulation. I don't take many pics of food as min...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

just checking back in. Beyond all belief this frankenstien is hammering right along without skipping a beat. There is no stopping it so far. I can control steady temps from 175-450 really easy. I have cooked 3 small whole hogs at once and everything else imaginable under the sun. A few follow up iss...

Re: Didnt know where to put this... LOL

Thanks Pete for the calculations. I was close but that helps to narrow it down to what i need. What do you think about the metal thickness on the bottom of the pot being 1/4" thick stainless? Is that over kill and will 3/16" suffice? Also on the remaining cabinet how thick stainless should that be? ...

Re: Didnt know where to put this... LOL

IMG_3439.JPG I tried to get it up right but I guess I am not that smart. lol Anyway that is the jist of it as it stands now, I may switch to 1/4" Aluminium on sides and 3/8" aluminium on bottom angled piece to help distribute the heat and last longer, not sure yet. If I do stainless it will be 1/8"...

Didnt know where to put this... LOL

Hey guys I am getting ready to build a stainless dual sack crawdad cooker and not sure about the burners for it. I am looking for about 350-400,000 BTUs of capacity. Can somebody point me in the direction of just the burner or nozzles to do this? The only ones I can find is the ones with multiple ti...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Well finally finished it up and got it powder coated. Looks ok. I wish I would have had a little better luck keeping my flat panels from distorting but I think it's ok for an amateur. Lol I am waiting on a little plasma cut metal to finish it off but other than that it's complete. Can't wait to use ...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Well got it together for a prelim run and all went according to plan, I turned it to full blast and within 30 minutes I had it to 377* but was climbing slow and I was in a hurry so didn't let it creep up. This was without gaskets on either door and lots of heat escaping. Not sure about the smoke dad...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Well a little good news, it was raining today so I wasn't in the field and I attempted to contact Smoke Daddy one more time and what do you know I got a really nice guy that helped me get everything ordered and on its way. I went ahead and rebuilt it top to bottom. New PID controller (not sure what ...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Well almost done with this so I decided to do a test fire and found out my temp probe was bad. Tried calling smoke daddy to get the updated parts kit to rebuild my entire hopper and cant get anyone on phone or a call back. Called to Smoker Builder HQ and spoke with Tom to see if he had parts, he was...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Thanks for the suggestion, but already tried that and its still not appealing, I may not have built it up enough to be effective. What do you guys think about using 1/2" angle with mitered cuts and uniformly spot welded around the perimeter to kind of frame the doors in? What you think? Any other id...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Well no smoke today. Got exhaust on and latches installed, I put 2 on the big door and 1 on the firebox clean out door. welded up latches completely and made sure all gaps were ok. I think I am going to put a strip of door seal on both door and smoker to make sure it seals up good. I do have a quest...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

ok trying to button up the last few things on this beast before I see if I have failed miserably and this is where I have a question? is exhaust size critical and if so how do I figure out what numbers to use? I have a 2 foot piece of 4 inch square tubing and not sure how long it needs to be. Any su...

Re: cannibalized Traeger

Well been making good progress on this. Got the cabinet built and welded all together with the insulation in, legs and tires mounted. baffle plate and grease drain done, mounting system for firebox, and completely welded box at all seams just to make it look a little more finished. Built the 2 doors...

cannibalized Traeger

Hey guys hadn't been around in a while, been using my home built reverse flow and traeger and was content at the moment until we got pounded with a wind storm and my traeger ended up looking like a pretzel. And that brings me to where I am now, I trashed the Traeger body and went to town yesterday a...

Re: Time to burn some wire again

Thanks for the welcome backs. Tom I was wavering for a bit but have made my mind up that I am going vertical. I know Frank has been super busy but I have been calling for a couple days, although I may be using the wrong prompts with the way his new system is set up, but we will cross paths soon. lol...

Time to burn some wire again

Hey guys hope all is well. I have been away for a bit after building my RF last spring. Finally got all the bugs worked out of it, but I find myself firing up the Traeger just because it is so consistant and easy. I have got the hankering to burn some wire and been looking for some ideas, and was le...

Re: rf first timer questions

Ok guys quick question, i am still creeping up on my issue with my temperature. I second guessed the efficiency of my small exhaust and yesterday went and cut all the old stuff off and added a piece of 6" well casing for the exhaust. The calculator showed 14" in length, ok my question may be dumb bu...

Re: rf first timer questions

Holy cow if you ain't right, but I am not far off. I used 90 gallon as I squared the doors off and added 3" to the top. I built a 20x20x20" firebox which put me at 115%. I have a 9.5x2.75" air intake which was 107%. My FB to CC opening is 4.5x12.5" which is 56.25 square inches with a goal of 64 squa...

Re: rf first timer questions

Well crap. Back at it again today and continue to be plagued by temp problems. It started fine as I used the approved method to get the fire rolling and all was fine until I added the 3rd split and she plummeted to 150 and comtinued to dip even lower at times. I tried everything from opening door, t...
