Re: First-time build, using an oval fuel oil drum.

I am down in Calvert County. Project got stalled with all the hurricane nonsense. Hoping to get it up and running again here soon.

Re: BBQ Wood selection

QReport! The chicken was pretty darn good as usual. I tossed in some pieces of beech from a large limb that fell out of my front yard last year. The wood went in on top of a double load of Royal Oak lump. The flavor wasn't too bad. Kind of light with a nutty-bitterness to it. Kind of like the taste ...

Re: First-time build, using an oval fuel oil drum.

So we got the lid cut out, drained the 10 r so gallons of fuel oil out, and did a first burn out. Now we are having trouble finding materials to fabricate a firebox. Apparently none of the "metal shops/fabricators" in my area actually stock sheet and plate steel! I am thinking about using 1/4" plate...

Re: BBQ Wood selection

I will be doing some chicken in my little Brinkman this weekend as we are working on building the big trailer pit, so I will toss some beech in and see what happens. Report to follow!

I thought I would have those done before building the big trailer pit, but a tank fell into my lap and we just burned out the big tank last night after c...

First-time build, using an oval fuel oil drum.

Hi all, Thunder here. Just picked up a 250gal residential fuel oil tank to make into a RF pit. I was thinking of using a 10 gallon boiler overflow tank to make the firebox out of. The big tank will be laid horizontally with the FB on the right side. Planning on using expanded metal for the grates. T...

Re: BBQ Wood selection

I have 3 large beech trees in my yard and I have tried to use some and it seemed quite bitter. maybe I didn't let it season long enough as I just used some small to medium sized branches. Anybody have any good experiences with it?

Hi all!

Hello everybody. Glad to be a part of the community. A good buddy and I are getting into the whole BBQ gig and we are just beginning our decent down the rabbit hole of pit building and Q-ing. I would like to start small with a UDS build and then work my way up to building an RF. Looking forward to p...
