Re: Story of a 100# patio smoker

Well, that's my only hang up is how it sorta looks out of place because of the size. I hate to put much more money into this little patio smoker and build a "full size" warming box because I like how it is setup now. It only takes 30 minutes to get the CC up to temp and I can cook for my family... o...

Re: Story of a 100# patio smoker

Okay, sorry for the confusion. I finally figured out how to upload photos instead of "sharing" them... Now that we're on a new page, I'll copy/paste the text from my original message: My neighbor keeps pulling out his little electric "Little Chief" to make jerky and it got me thinking... I don't nee...

Re: Story of a 100# patio smoker

My neighbor keeps pulling out his little electric "Little Chief" to make jerky and it got me thinking... I don't need a warming box on this little patio smoker but some nice fire smoked jerky would really make me happy. Please tell me your thoughts on this idea I have here. Bad? Good? Not gonna work...

Re: Story of a 100# patio smoker

Well, there's certainly a need for larger size CC but this one will do probably 99% of all my cooks. While it's so rare that I cook for more than 10 people I figured that it would be worth having two sizes... Re: Story of a 100# patio smoker

Well I made a little progress today, I ended up making a reverse flow tray. Lol. Welded two ends on it and put a drain through. I Mig'd the drain pipe and tested it with water and there were some pinhole leaks so I washed that weld out with my TIG torch. It's ugly but it filled up at least. 20151027...

Re: Story of a 100# patio smoker

Thanks, I was thinking about a way to keep them in place if I wheel it around. May not got with inside plates but that was my first thought. On another subject, I had a 2 degree break put in my rf plate. It wasn't enough so I resorted to a home made break which turns out to be a failure... and that'...

Re: It's been a while. Working on a 100# patio smoker

Thanks folks. The firebox comes in at about 160% as it sits now. I want to place firebrick in it and weld new plates inside them and then the calc falls to about 125% but I needed it big enough to still fit a split of wood into...

Story of a 100# patio smoker

So after I finished my 150 gallon smoker (documented on this site) I got tired of cooking in it because it took way too long to get the cook chamber up to temp. for a smoker used 95% for a small group. I hope I didn't go to the other extreme with a little 100# propane tank. Here's where I'm at so fa...

Re: 1st build, 64 gallon lp tank RF vertical design ?

good call on going horizontal. My very first shot at a smoker was a 100# propane tank and I made it vertical. It was more or less a UDS at the end of the day. I had always wished I made it horizontal. It was given to the "estranged's" dad for a birthday present a few years back. Now, I'll never see ...

Re: Planning my first reverse flow

Moved the rig inside the shop (We got around 3" of rain Saturday and Sunday) and I got the floor on and a wood box framed up. It's a bit tight at 18.5" deep. I had to put a little wood in the box for the piccie  https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-xzHzrjaIxFc/UvhuxoDig5I/AAAAAAAAJEc/MoY4WkzkFhU...

Re: 150 Gallon Reverse Flow Smoker Build

I had always thought about putting a 6-8" tall box on top of the firebox (kinda like a warming box but for pizza. Put it on a stone and rest it right on top of the firebox. Think that might work?

Re: Planning my first reverse flow

The doors are heavy but I've decided against counter weights. It will aide in keepin' me from peekin'... And I want as clean a look as possible. Re: Planning my first reverse flow

I've been sifting through the "trailer builder" forum for the past week trying to get ideas of a layout for this. I'm pretty sure I want to add a sink to it as well to meet State Food Safety requirements if anyone wanted to cook at a local fair for instance... although maybe a separate table would b...

Re: Planning my first reverse flow

Here's a better view of the trailer. It's an old boat trailer but I was thrilled by the design of it. Doesn't have those lame, bent cross members. All the bunkers were bolted to the trailer. Came out pretty clean and an easy project to work on moving forward! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com...

Re: Planning my first reverse flow

Longest build project in smokerbuilder.com history??? Not a lot has happened although yesterday got kinda boring by halftime so I finished up and just tacked the firebox to the trailer I recently acquired for this. Does everyone weld their smokers to the trailer? I know this is a lousy photo but the...

Re: Planning my first reverse flow

I'm really NOT looking forward to cutting it down (I know I should have done that before I welded it on) But the test drive on it (without any meat) went very well. Temp maintained perfectly, had sufficient draft, etc. Anyone see any reason I can't leave it tall? It get's the smoke well above everyo...
