Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Okay, so for those of you wondering I work weekends and am off every Tuesday and Wednesday. That being said, I'm going to be cutting the hole in the tank for the exhaust pipe on Tuesday and I'm wondering what is the easiest way to layout the hole and cut it seeing as I dont have access to anything t...

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Yep you can do exactly what you are talking about, in my case I just cap with a piece of flat bar faster for me because I have it lying around usually. Generally I have to cap the back only because on the front the angel pieces that go from the corner of the trailer ie braces are seal welded and ta...

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Been thinking that I can use the 2x2 1/4" that I have to make the wood box and any storage bin frames, might be over-kill but its better than wasting the angle.

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

So I priced a 24' piece of 2x3 1/8" at $61 each. I guess I will be picking up 3 next Monday and begin the trailer on Tuesday.

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Please forgive the lack of knowledge in this area, as I've always worked with plate steel and angle and just heard of people having issues or the potential for issues if rain water were to get inside the frame of the trailer when using tubing. One more question and forgive me if this sounds crazy, b...

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

That appears to be 1/12 angel iron possibly 2" it is not big enough for the cooker!!!!! I use 2x3 by 11gauge on the main frame and you can use 14 gauge on the cross members if you like. If I was using angel iron it would be a minimum of 3" by 3/16 thick!!!! INMHO!!! Not being critical at all if you...

The layout in the pic is the trailer frame to be used, why do you say it won't be strong enough?

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Got some more work done on the smoker today. I finished putting the gussets on and cut up all the metal for the firebox. Didnt get any new pics yet, battery on the phone died and then dark caught up with me before it charged back up. I will add some new pics tomorrow.

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

The gusset design at the top is 1" and at the bottom is 3" so it wont be a full 3 off the door but close enough, I think.

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Has anyone had any experience with the Plasti Dip Synthetic Rubber Coatings? Its a rubber coating for various tools and other applications. Just thought if I coated the wood handle in that, it would get a nice grip and shouldnt get to hott. But maybe someone has done it before and can tell me from e...

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

I'm thinking about using a 1" wooden rod as the handle, just wondering if the wood will get to hot and eventually become brittle from the repeated heating and cooling.
The handles that are on it are just temporary.

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

Okay so I wanted to reduce if not eliminate the outward bow on the door, and I figured if I can design a gusset just right then I could implement the handle into the same piece. What do ya'll think? http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff479/Tj_Wrangler_SC/Smoker_Build_250/IMG_2013022722543_zpsf1d438...

Re: 250 gallon trial and error

My sugesstion would be to increase the size of your firebox to be 24"x30"x30" While the numbers you posted will make it easier with a single 4'x8' sheet, its only calculated out to be 91% of the recommendedsize for the firebox. Your half moon cutout does seem to big, my baffle plate is 28 wide and m...

Re: first trailer smoker beginings

Have you finished the smoker yet?
I'd be interested to know how the springs worked out after several cooks.
Do you have any updated pics?
