Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

Things tend to behave differently when they're hot and that gonna be the one time old lady karma pays you a visit.
I go with counter weights too, doesn't look like you'll need much just something to help hold it in that opened or closed state.

Re: Help with heavy cook chamber door

They are hood springs from a lot of older chevy/gmc trucks, and they haven't lost any spring in the 2 years we've been using them.
I can't imagine with temps under 350 it's effecting the the composition of the steel coil.

Re: Help with heavy cook chamber door

The question I would have is; how much room do you have between your top most shelf and the top of the cooker? If you're only running one shelf you should have the room for something like this. It still works like a champ even after several years of cooking. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170207...

Re: firebox insulation ??? What to use

I'm using ceramic fiberglass insulation on the build I am doing now and it is so much easier to work with. I used roxul on a prior build and it was not as easy to cut or get to stay in place when working with it. I also had a difficult time finding roxul in the 1" thick roll or board thickness. Just...

Yeah definitely don't forget to space the gap. Unless you just need additional welding practice. [emoji849]
I really like the design of those hinges

Re: Need some help with trailer for 250 gallon offset

I built a 250 reverse flow and detailed the trailer build in this post: http://smokerbuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2092 I finally decided on the 2x3 and the design of it made it easy to square things up and design it just big enough to sit on the axle perfectly. Check it out, the trailer p...

Re: Ole Red - 60Gal Air Compressor RF Build

Got the hinges mounted and totally forgot to space a gap for the gasket [emoji35] so I guess I'll be cutting them loose from the firebox and try again. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161222/46e21fecaa6c47975c1d755e0b0b4607.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161222/74424bfa1b2a94448ce948aafa37c...

Finished most of the work on the firebox, dry fit the cooker tank onto it. Everything is lining up just right.

Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

Yeah the radiant heat will be a problem, you'll have a fair bit of heat coming off the FB & pneumatic tyres don't like heat that much. I was thinking they would be about this proximity from jwsimpleville's build: http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff479/Tj_Wrangler_SC/21_Reverse_Flow_Smoker/IMG_20...

Also picked up the newest 250 build from sandblast & paint

This one is going up for sale once we finish up a few final touches (add strong arm assists to the storage bins and counter)
And figure up how much we have in it with all that shiny stuff.

Re: Ole Red - 60Gal Air Compressor RF Build

Been a little while but I've made some good progress. I've almost finished the firebox and I designed the intake vents into the door so that if I decide to try the BBQ Guru later I can just build another door without the vents. Here's a few pics. Ole Red - 60Gal Air Compressor RF Build

Hello again everyone, I've recently started building another Reverse Flow smoker from this 60Gal air compressor tank someone gave me. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161106/2aecb2f9185f95ee0a15129f3e0a3686.jpg I've started building the firebox from 1x1 sq tubing, and here are the pics I've taken s...

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

So I'm going to sell the smoker shown in this build if anyone is interested PM me. I want to build another one using a 500gal tank but need to fund it before congress (aka: the wife) will approve such a venture.
Any ideas/suggestions on what to sell it for?

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

So a little update, I've been practicing alot with potlucks at work and even done a fundraiser for a church. I've decided prior to jumping into more competitions this year I'd judge several competitions in the first part of this year. I've done 3 and my 4th is this coming Saturday. I've learned alot...

Re: 250 Trailer Smoker

So I entered into a local competition, only 20 teams. The judges scored us 16th, however we won Tasters choice.
prize for Tasters choice was 1/2 off next year's entry fee. Looking forward to trying again.

Re: 21Gal Reverse Flow Patio Smoker

Got a little more shop time this morning. Got the grate made, and slide rails mounted in, also got two clamps mounted to the tank to apply slight pressure on the lid to hold it closed. Didn't have the need on my 250gal build as the doors were plenty heavy enough. http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/...
