Re: Fire box to cook chamber opening

Ok was geeking out on my design and reading through the threads... I've run my dimensions and spec through the Feldon's Calculator several times and it's says that my CC to FB opening (halfmoon) should be 12.59" wide .. I get that but how tall should it be? Thanks, sorry for resurrecting an old thre...

Re: New to the forum, my first build.. questions

I cut my doors as late in the process as possible. I think it cuts down on some distortion, we use a plasma it is fast, efficient and cost less to use. But... we do a lot of fabrication and i do mean a lot. I love my metabo's though. Actually dewalt has a new cut off tool comparable to a metabo and...

Re: First Build 81 Gal Patio Rig

I always build my door complete with flange etc. then paint the inside of the door only and silicone the firerope in place. This way you can lay the door in place (rotate the cooker or use cargo straps) so that gravity or the straps will slightly compress the firerope. Without moving anything weld ...

Re: New to the forum, my first build.. questions

Are you all building your firebox first.. then cutting the FB door and CC/FB opening after?? I'm assuming most of you are using a cutting torch or plasma cutter... ? All I have is a cutting wheel... I'm thinking a plasma cutter would be a good investment..

Re: First Build 81 Gal Patio Rig

Bullet hinges are my favorite - they should work fine but you'll prolly want at least 3 for that weight of door - just guessing from the pic. Take your time to get some nice parallel lines on both the door and jamb so you can line up the hinges in "as close to the same line" as possible. If you're ...

Re: New to the forum, my first build.. questions

Another question.. I'm working with CC (propane tank) that's 20" in diameter how far from the of the tank should the BP sit? In other words how much of a gap should I leave from the bottom of the tank 5" , 6" or more? I also read somewhere else on here that the BP should sit about 1" above the FB to...

Re: First Build 81 Gal Patio Rig

What do you all think about taking just the bell end I cut off and welding it back to the CC..? The main reason I cut it off was becuase the original tank demensions were 63" long... and I wanted a 48" CC... I'm just thinking if I welded the dome back on it would have a more balanced look not to men...

Re: First Build 81 Gal Patio Rig

Made a little progress tonight cut of the tank mounting flanges, and got all but the tank relief valve off... That thing appears to be brass and has decided it didn't wanna come out... so ... I cut it off and punched all the innards out of it... B-) Wasn't sure what else to do.. Main goal today was ...

Re: New to the forum, my first build.. questions

Ok I'll give it a shot. I would do the seal/flange on the outside. As far as the B/P questions, it usually sits about 5 inches below the grate. The bp should have fall to the drain, usually about an inch. I would use black iron and weld a fitting to the bp and screw the pipe in. Why I don't know, j...

Re: New to the forum, my first build.. questions

Ok lots more questions! 1. What are your opinions on the CC door seal? I've seen welded strips on the exterior of the door itself and also strips on the interior of the CC... I will be using the Bullet style weld on hinges if that makes any difference. 2. For the BP how how much hire than the FB/CC ...
