Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

Things I would do different My firepots are mostly external but I would make a removable side to them for cleaning without removing the grates or grease pan. I would make the doors with more overlap so they seal better I would make baffels in the middle so when running one burner your not losing hea...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I do use traeger pellets, usually apple for the first hour and then mesquite. I can get any pics you want to see. I use a heat diffuser about 2" above the firepot. I then have a full length of 16ga about 6" below the cooking grate that is just angled down to one end and a catch can under it. I would...

Re: Large Pellet Grill (24x48)

I built one that is 3'x6' octagon and run it mostly on 1 burner box. I can get around 300 on the side where the burner is running. I actually have two burners but only run both of them when cooking whole hogs. I usually never cook above 225 so only run one. I guess you would really need to decide wh...

Re: A good premade rub

I just checked out the web page. I couldn't find a description of the rub, what kind of flavor profile would you describe it as?

As with all large chunks of meat, if at my house it's time to get "smoked".

Re: Auger Question

I think you are talking about the thread I started with the picture of the auger flight. I just bought them with no center shaft so I wouldn't have to pay to ship all that weight. It will take a 3/4" piece of solid bar or pipe and it slides right in. It's easier to cut without the center shaft in al...

Re: Side box RF pellet wonder?

I used 2" pipe. It has quite a bit of room to move around but it has never failed to feed or get clogged up.

Re: Side box RF pellet wonder?

How much do you want? I can spare a bit....

So I guess since no one has had examples of the side box smoker failing to work I might have to give it a try.

Re: Side box RF pellet wonder?

Augers Unlimited, 6103801660. I called about 20 places before I found a place that would sell me a "little bit" and I have about 10 feet left after building my grill. I think that minimum order was 20 feet. I got 1.75 dia 2" pitch, 3/4 id out of A36 steel.

Re: Side box RF pellet wonder?

They are 1 rpm motors but the flight(auger pitch) is different than traeger and almost full auger tube dia as opposed to a lose screw in a traeger................ie forced fed

Re: Side box RF pellet wonder?

Smoker pics, you can see both fireboxes here, 4" square tube with the auger in one side, 45 deg burner plate inside with 25 or so 1/8" holes drilled in a grill pattern. 1" blackpipe air feed in the bottom. In another pic you can see the fan and both auger motors.

Re: Side box RF pellet wonder?

The cooker I have now has the fire in the cook chamber and I don't think it gets even enough heat. I can however run a single burner in a 3'x6' chamber and it will get to 400 degrees. I am using a traeger controller but a bigger auger and a more forced style burn box. The last one I built used the f...

Side box RF pellet wonder?

So this is a repeat of a first post that I believe was lost.....??? I built a pellet smoker that has two fireboxes in the cook chamber. It is 3'x6' and was built for smoking whole hogs. I now end up just firing up one firebox and using half of it to do ribs/shoulders/briskets ...... So it has no "ce...
