Paint suppliers

I’m finally at the end of my gf build. I’m having a hard time finding a gloss red paint in quarts only spray cans. I also would like recommendations on a good primer. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Start of a mini

Finally got some time to get some work done on the smoker since I finished the Santa Maria grill. I cut out part of the inner frame and added a recess with some pig tails to keep the meat/temp probe cables out of the way. I also got the main door tacked up with recesses for the thermometers. I didn’...

Re: 36”x68” Santa Maria grill

It’s finally done except going over it to get out the grinder swirls with a flap disc and sander. I’ll be delivering it to it’s owner hopefully on Tuesday. He’ll be powder coating it since he owns a powder coating business. It’s a good thing it’s done and I’ll be getting paid because I could use a l...

Re: 36”x68” Santa Maria grill

Finally got some shop time in this weekend. I was able to get the cook grates, fire grates, ash pans, and cables with the ratchet and paw done.

Re: 36”x68” Santa Maria grill

Anyone with that heavy duty of saw horse needs an overhead crane installed They’re not that heavy duty and weigh about 30 lb each. As for the over head crane I’m with you. 😁 It actually wasn’t that bad getting it off the horses. I picked one end and the wife drug out the horse then repeat. All I’ve...

Re: Start of a mini

Not much done except the front panel installed with the recess for my controller. Spent most of my time grinding down welds. I will say I’m glad I didn’t make the door since some where things got out of square. Not bad but enough that I had to make the door a little out so it didn’t over lap the rec...

36”x68” Santa Maria grill

Here’s the start of a Santa Maria grill for a friend. It’s 36x68 and will have two cooking grates. The firebox is 1/4x12 flat bar. I used 1/4x4 on the bottom and will fill with 14 gauge sheet to help save on weight. The walls will be lined with fire brick. I’m copying the subterranean/bbqpitboys tha...

Re: Start of a mini

Is it just me or do your wife’s throw a wrench in any free time you think you have to work on your smoker? Knowing I have a project going on do you think she would put a pause on hers so I could finish mine. I’m just venting and love her to death so I guess I’ll always put her first. On top of that ...

I seem to recall that everybody has a hoist, forklift or tractor at their disposal so weight isn’t a factor.

Everyone, except me, that is!
I have all of those at my disposal too. Like a dummy I chose to build at home instead of at work.

Re: Start of a mini

You've clearly not gone through the forum's DP GF builds... just about everyone mentions how quickly they get heavy. :D Good idea to get them on wheels early on. You can take the wheels off for painting etc, but to move the thing around without wheels is a pain. Another thing to incorporate is lift...

Re: Start of a mini

I don’t want all the wires hanging out so that’s why I’m going with the recess. Keep in mind I’ve added 10 inches to the height so I have little more room for placement and think it’ll look and work good. Why hasn’t anybody complained about how fast these things get heavy?🙄 I got my panels straighte...

Re: Start of a mini

I think your efforts to keep a clean look will pay off for sure. My fan hangs out quite a bit and it does get banged sometimes. It's just a matter of time and I'll forget it's there and it will knocked clean in two and I'll be buying another fan! :-) That’s exactly why I’m doing it. At first I was ...

2EDD3E2E-7916-4182-B405-2428FBE7B0F6.jpeg Like I mentioned before sheet metal dancing around. I’m going to add 2-3 pieces of 1/2” square stock on the outside of the cc along with the channel for my grates on the inside hoping to get the bow out. If not I’ll add a couple pieces of 1 1/2 square tube ...

Re: Start of a mini

Got a little work done today. I got all the cook chamber panels welded in. Damn that’s a lot of welding. I kept the welds to 2-3 inches and let cool and still ended up with the sheet metal dancing around.
