Re: Found a solution to temp problem... BUT..

It is a gravity feed stumps clone I do just add splits in the ash box and let it go from there but it always seems to ignite into a fire so I assume that is the way it worked. I will try smaller amounts of wood and see how it works but some say that they throw larger sizes in there and some use smal...

Re: Starting my build

Did an overnight cook Friday (In a thunderstorm again) and I have to tell you this thing makes some wonderful BBQ ! It took a long time to get the smoker to temp after the meat was loaded in the smoker not sure if it was the volume of meat (over a 100 lbs) or if I am having probe issues or what BUT ...

Re: Starting my build

I got it fired up a bit ago and installed my BBQ GURU and probes. Yes it is raining but today is my only day to do this so up went the canopy. I used my weed burner to burn the insides of the cooker out as well as the air intake, ash box. That was a good idea as it burned out the moisture from the m...

Re: Starting my build

I got the door on today- holy crap was that heavy !!!!! Its got to be 300+ pounds. I am using 1/2" gasket and used 1/4" shims for setting the door gap and it worked great. Hope to have the racks in tomorrow and then do a burn on Thursday - Wish me luck.... BTW - She is big. Seems bigger every time I...

Re: Starting my build

I was able to work on the clone this afternoon and got a lot done. I put the raceway for the GURU power supply in as well as the pipe for the probes. Sealed up the chute top so when the door is in place it will be air tight, I made the chute about 3/8" taller than the top of the cooker to keep any w...

Re: 500 gallon tank smoker build

You might want to make it a reverse flow smoker. I made a 500 gallon tank smoker with reverse flow and it cooks even temp all the way across this way you don't have to mess with tuning plates and no hot spots to worry about. I am using that same insulation in my gravity feed insulated smoker. It wil...

Re: Starting my build

I got the heat tube installed - I got lucky and nailed it on first try !!! Word of wisdom when you build one of these try and have the fire box, ash box, chimney build and installed BEFORE you put the cook chamber in as it will be a lot easier to weld them in. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c96/b...

Re: Starting my build

The chute is 27" and the fire box is 24" tall with a ash box of 12" . The chute sticks out the top about 3/8" No plasma cutter, have to use a grinder for the heat transfer tube but am looking to scrounge up a jig saw. Welding up the transfer tube will be a challenge as there is almost no room to get...

Re: New Cabinet Smoker build

I agree with 3.5" spacing that's what I am going with and I should be able to fit 11 racks in mine. You can always remove some to fit larger cuts or a hog.

Re: Build Design Help

Rick thanks i actually already googled it and found it and yeah my stuff is WAYYY off.. so i have to rework the numbers for the dimension again. For adding a firebox do you think 2'x2' too larger should i cut that back to 1'6"x1'6" and then slide the box on over 6 inches at that point along with lo...
