Re: my cold smoker project

IMG_20131112_213738_456.jpg here it is on the first test run. puts out plenty of smoke. when i redo the burn chamber, i am thinking of adapting it to my 60 gallon patio rig. i put in a half inch pipe nipple as a drain for the baffle plate. so if i rig up some pipe fittings.i can pump the smoke righ...

from what i can tell. you wrap it up in towels and put it in an actual cooler, like an coleman, igloo, yeti....to let it rest and keep it warm.

Re: another mini

scan0001.jpg so here is a rough draft. i have this old 1/8" piece of sheet that used to be the tailgate on my 48 chevy. so i can use that, which i have, or go buy some thicker stuff. either way, i dont think i will use a piece of air tank for the fb. i need it to be longer and rectangular. the cent...

Re: another mini

i measured the tank, 35" cir(11.14 dia), 31" from weld to weld, so not including the end caps, about 12 gallons each? so maybe it wont be as mini as gizmo's, but small enough to be useful. or would that be large enough to be useful? Any one have any thoughts on fb thickness on something this small? ...

IMG_20130907_183744_547.jpg IMG_20130907_183732_212.jpg I liked gizmo_rick's idea of a mini cooker. So i went and got 2 of these air tanks from work. gotta love free truck parts. I've been wanting a smaller something to do a few burgers or steaks on. figured i could build some sort of mini smoker o...

Re: Soon to Start Center Feed, With ?

i've only built the one, but that sounds reasonable for the gaps. what ever the pit calc comes up with, divide by two, one for each side. i used a 60 gallon tank and my fb opening is 6.5x6.5". i have not noticed any hot spot effect, the 1/4" bp seems to spread the heat nicely. but i was thinking abo...

Re: 80 Gallon Bid for Excellence

for the bp openings, i used a piece of closed cell foam and a piece of tig rod. cut your foam to the desired sq in, and use that to make you template to cut the curved shape.

Re: Stack thickness

i used 4" truck exhaust for the stack and 5" for the fb inlet. it was free and works nice. I used rain hats for the dampers. i wasn't sure at first, but they are working out ok so far, and they were also free.

Re: First cook on treager, for a large group

so 10 oz per person? also, i was thinking today, what about rub. i usually make a big ol jar and it lasts a while. i have not given much thought on how much rub i need for 45lbs of meat? any thoughts on that?

i will be able to get the cooker and do a test cook on it. so that is nice.

Re: 250 gallon upright (noob build)

thats a good idea. make the center mounted stack the counter weight. i didn't want a seperate counter weight sticking out on mine,so i just made it so the stack was centered, and the door opens up over center and rests on the stack. but yeah. stack on the door. could be very clean looking. maybe nex...

First cook on treager, for a large group

Hello, i have a question or two for you treager owners. I will probably wind up cooking for my work bar b que coming up in a few weeks. the company has one of the trailer style treager cookers. i have never cooked on a treager before and am wondering how user friendly they are. i have brisket and sh...

Re: 250 gallon upright (noob build)

what if you built the fire box into the bottom of the main tank, and make it a center feed. us a piece of plate to cover the fire box, make the correct sized opening, and then put your baffle plate above that.

Re: First build ,60 gallon center feed, maybe

i am very happy with the way this turned out. i may eventually get rid of the rain hats and come up with a more precise baffle set up. it works for now. under perfect conditions(over cast day with no wind), i can set the stack and air inlet, have the cc at about 250 degrees and get an hour out of th...
