Re: RF Smoker On A Riding Lawn Mower Cart

Got the work shelf on back and storage underneath done. Built a fire in it and burned it out. Was happy with the way it came up to temp and was easy to hold, but I didn't like the temp difference from end to end, about a 44-50 degree on FB end of CC. Added a 9" wide shadow plate and temp difference ...

Re: RF Smoker On A Riding Lawn Mower Cart

I finally had the heart to start working on my smoker again. The passing of my wife has really been rough. Got the fire basket, and ash pan built. Also installed the temperature gauges. I think I will build a work shelf on the end and a place for storage under the CC. Then I will do a test burn. IMG...

Thanks Mo Smoke. I still haven't got to the point that I can put my heart into working on the smoker but I will get started soon.

Re: RF Smoker On A Riding Lawn Mower Cart

Smoker has been on hold since August 29 when we found out my wife of 61 years had lung and bone cancer. She passed away on November 22 and I laid her to rest on November 25. I will soon get back to working on the smoker.

Re: next build, 85 gallon trailer rig

The liquid in the cavity is that juice from the pig or added? I plan on smoking a pig when I finish my smoker which is on hold right now. We just found out my wife of 61 years has bone and lung cancer so everything is on the back burner until we get treatment started.

Ditto on the sliding basket and ash pan. I put stops on my basket not to worry about pulling it out to far.

Re: Is a high temp grill on a reverse flow smoker possible?

Thanks, Mo Smoke, I checked it out. Looks good. I didn't see a stop on the sliding racks, I think I would have one just in case I got carried away sliding them out.

If you posted pictures or a drawing of your smoker it would help understand your concept.

Re: New Build Thread: Uncle Charlie – Short and Full of Fir

RC, I agree. Then you have your sealing gasket on the door flange and out of the way when the door is raised, which helps prevent damage to the seal.

Re: New Build Thread: Uncle Charlie – Short and Full of Fir

Are the advantages of installing the inside flange worth the extra work involved? It seems to me you would not have any better seal than an equally well fitting outside flange. The gap is still there it is only covered on a different side.

Re: RF Smoker On A Riding Lawn Mower Cart

Made the counter balance and welded on. Made the standoffs 14" long. Worked out good; filled the pipe with scrap iron pieces and welded them inside the pipe to keep them from rattling before capping pipe. Door opens easy but still heavy enough to stay closed tight. Thanks for the advice. IMG_0290.JPG

Joiner plate (JP). I have often wondered what to call the plate between the CC and FB. Frank should add that to the Official Slang Data Base.

I personally don't mind a few threaded connections left on, after all it is an outdoor cooker! How it runs is what's important to me. I turned them to the bottom on mine and used them for drains.

Re: RF Smoker On A Riding Lawn Mower Cart

Making progress! Hinges welded on CC door and FB door and latch in place. The CC door is a little heavy and tall to open so I am making a counter balance out of a 24" piece of 4" pipe. Is there a formula for how long to make the attaching arms to get the right balance? I am thinking of making them 1...

Re: Hinges (CC door)

Mofomatic, I cut my door out completely first, then welded on the strips around the edges of door. I cut it with grinder and cutting wheel and it warped just a little which I was able to nearly straighten out. When I pulled it down with a come along before welding on the hinges it pulled down to the...
