Re: Firebox to Cook Chamber Damper

Thanks guys! The way I see it is, it will save a lot of fab time to not put one in. Especially if it won't help you control the fire, heat and smoke.

Firebox to Cook Chamber Damper

Hey Guys,

What are the pros and cons of having a damper between the cook chamber and the firebox?
Is there a reason to have one or not to have one?

Here's how I designed my grease drain. I have not fabricated this pit yet. Hopefully will do so this summer.

Re: Firebox door latches...fabrication and design

Any of you guys got some good links to manufactured door latches (maybe wood stove door latches) or pictures of firebox door latches you have made. I'm looking for some ideas. My fire box is going to be a piece of 3/8 thick, 26" pipe 70" long horizontal to the cook chamber with two doors.

How do I cut doors in 26", 3/8" pipe?

Ok y'all you fabrication guys, Whats the best way to cut doors in a piece of 26" diameter pipe that is 3/8" thick and 70" long, and minimize warping or spring back? The pipe is going to be used for a firebox on a pit project. Tell me what you think.

Re: New Drawings, Need Your Input

Hey Jaybird302, The top of the firebox and the baffle plate are going to be 5/16" plate. How do think it will fair when the fire heats it up? Smokeone asked were those doors or drawers on the firebox. I am planning on making doors in the 26" , 3/8" pipe for access nearly the length of the firebox. Y...

Program for drawing pit projects

From time to time I see you guys posting some really cool drawings of pit projects. Do you have any recommendations that are inexpensive that a novice like myself could use to do some drawing of my own?

Changing Springs and Pit Placement

Hey Yall, I salvaged two eight lug 6000lb axels with brakes from a 39' travel trailer. They are double eye springs. Can they be changed to another type of spring, slipper maybe or something else? I think I am going to need my trailer to be as low as possible because of my warming cabinet height. Als...
