Got a lil more done today

Well finally got a chance to get back after the pit today. Was able to get the doors cut and start putting the flatbar on the outside. Now it's time for. Cold one.

Temp gauge.

So while browsing the good ole web for some temp gauges I had a thought.

What about using a mechanical temp gauge for a hot rod.?? Attaching the cable to top of CC and placing probe right on cooking grate?? Seems like it would work to me just thought I would bounce the idea off you guys.

Ok so yet another question. When using the pit calc do y'all use ID or OD of the pipe to determine everything.

Re: RF question for you gurus

Wasn't to bad at all. Briskets still had a nice smoke ring. I plan on doing mine like a regular RF bc I know they work really well. Just thought I would get some opinions.

CC lid hinge question.

Ok I found these hinges and I really like the way they look. My question is will they hold up on my lid. The pit is 30in pipe and the doors will be 2'-6".

Ok ran the numbers. Firebox will be 30x29(116) exhaust is going to be 6in pipe at 35in long fire box intake will be 8in circle. Now here is where I get lost on how to lay out how to cut the plate for the firebox to cook chamber. It says round should be 14.20 in and half moon should be 20.08. I want ...

Getting ready to start a 30x72 RF build

Ok fellas about to start cracking on my trailer build. I had bought the 30x48 plans from the web site and decided to go bigger. Bigger is always better right!! So my question is how much should those plans differ from wanting to add another 2ft to the pit. Mainly the throat opening and baffle plate?...

Hybrid????

Has anyone built a hybrid smoker?? Charcoal grill on one side smoker on other?? Thinking about adding a grill to my smoker but was wondering about pros and cons of doing this. Saw a builder do it and I like the idea but didn't know if it would affect temp in the smoker when both are fired up.
