Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Did more today got one end welded up and cleaned entirely. Had to call a friend to help me roll it over to the other side, then it got dark. Going to weld and clean that end tomorrow then ive only got three full length (1.25M) seems to weld and the cabinet is done. Once ive cut the door im going to ...

Re: Reverse flow/grill combo design help

Hmm, you could maybe design it so the baffle plate lifts out and a basket/grill for the charcoal when your grilling goes in in place of the baffle plate... You may want some height adjustment, could end up being easier to adjust the height of the grill rather than the height of the coals... The one ...

Re: Insulation, how big is the differnce and how do you do i

Your using three inch insulation there rick, I don't really have space for that... Could I get away with one inch? Surely there's a thickness where it just dosnt make any difference caus it's too thin...?

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Today I managed to do the hardest join, which was the bottom of the sloped front. Annoyingly the flat lower piece was too long and overlapped the slope by about 6-7mm. I cut it down with the grinder, pushed it in flat and welded all the way along. Also started to cut with a thin disk between the two...

Insulation, how big is the differnce and how do you do it..?

Hi Everyone, Thinking of turning my half built RF smoker into a gravity fed charcoal type with a firebox at one end. Everyone who builds these insulates them, so im wondering how much difference it really makes? I want to make the smoker efficient, so the insulation will help, but how much? Also wha...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Been cleaning up welds today with a flap disk. Looks nice. Some areas I won't be able to do this too though caus it's a flat butt seam, so if I grind off the weld, there will barely be anything holding the join together. With this weld though there was a deep groove that I filled up nicely and as yo...

Re: Gravity fed charcoal offset...

I was thinking id make the chute hit of 5x5 steel box or similar and run it, if it only lasts four hours il make it taller! I'm also hoping if the draw is strong enough it wouldn't need a fan.... I might make the burner first and make it a separate item and bolt it on, so if it turns out not to work...

Gravity fed charcoal offset...

Hi Everyone, Went to visit someone today and he had a really neat gravity fed charcoal fired smoker, similar to a fast eddy in size and shape, but with a gravity fed burner he runs on heat beads. Ive just started welding up the cooking chamber for my smoker and im thinking, its not too late to turn ...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Been doing more today. Cut the corners off and fitted the slope. There's a fairly serious metal mismatch, which the grinder will fix. Welding is hard caus I use tig and this thing is huge, I'm having fun though.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Just started welding together, off to a flying start by welding two if the wrong pieces together. Now having to cut along the weld so I can do it again. Very frustrating.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Pretty much a firebox on wheels, but yes it does extend outwards to give me somewhere to put stuff. Im not sure yet but I thnk im going to put some rails on the firebox to help slide the firebox onto, so the trolley might be I shaped (imagine a traditional capital I)

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi Gizmo, The door starts at the top, down the sloped surface and down the front, so the edge/seal will be on the flat surfaces. My logic is, if I managed to make the cheap offset seal so well with fibreglass strip and cam latches, surely this will seal too! The cooking chamber is going to sit on a ...

Re: Gasket!!

On my badly made cheap offset I used 15mm wide woven fibreglass self adhesive stove seal tape. Works well. The gap was so big I ended up putting the seal on both the door and on the CC body so its a fibreglass on fibreglass seal. Also where the hinges had been welded on, there was a flat spot that c...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

It's a scale model, print out, cut out and fold along lines!

Or take the bit of paper to a steel shop and get them to cut it out, then weld together. It's all to help others make their own smokers of the same design.

Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi Everyone, Im building a Centre feed RF, based kind of half loosely on Gizmos Edgar smoker. Its 1.25M wide, which is the width of a standard steel sheet here, so it makes it fairly easy and cheap to source and cut the steel. Im going to make it in parts, the cooking chamber first, then once thats ...

Re: Alright, formalities being over...

Yeh my little new brunfels that I modified, I sealed it all up good and proper, and I had a basket of coconut shell briquettes with a coffee can minion method. Ran for six hours with no attention at all, keeping 250F solid all the way. My centrefeed that im doing thats very similar to Edgar, I was h...
