Miniature/model tracel smoker

I everyone, I recall seeing photos of a tiny little model smoker someone made, was big enough for half a chicken, pretty sure it was I'm this category. He called it a travel smoker I think..... Dos anyone have any links for the thread, I'm thinking of building one for a friend who has no space for a...

Re: 1st build, 64 gallon lp tank RF vertical design ?

Yay, another centre feed! It's such a good idea. I built my whole smoker with tig, I got quite good,at it by the end...

Finally got the smoker out of the garage again into the light for a photo with the handle. It really makes a difference

Re: baffle plate thickness

I use 6mm (nearly 1/4in) in mine and it works well.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Obviously if you dont need to move it around or disassemble it like I do, then there is no reason why you cant skip the ladder and just weld the CC straight to the FB and have it as one piece.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

I feel I should also show this video again to remind everyone of the way I designed the smoker to move.... It looks so dirty and crap unpainted!

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi Puff, The ladder does not really need to remove, but I thought I may as well make it removable rather than weld it on so I can reconfigure, and I can split it down into a very small package if I remove the ladder. Now it is bolted on though, I do feel that I probably may never take it off, but it...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

I got rid of the turnbuckles as Im thinking of mounting some log warming boxes onto the sides, and the turnbuckles would be right in the way. The top mount rail (we call it the ladder) now bolts on in the same way the firebox bolts to the base. The four corner holes on the firebox are 25mm diameter,...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

A quick update, changed the format slightly (removed turn buckles) and painted nicely and cured fb paint. Just mounted the handle.

Stick burning in the rain and wind is no fun. Dumped 5kg of charcoal in there and set the mavericks alarms and going to sleep lol

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

I thought about those gas lifts, but due to the design of the smoker, they would have to go inside and im not sure they would take the heat. My current favorite idea is to have some catches on the top that catch with hooks on the lid so you lift the lid up then it clicks in and holds, then you relea...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Ohhhh I'm not done yet!!

Thermometers here, tested for accuracy and repeatability, and installed. Also laser cut some cool handles for my oak handle rod. Gonna look good with that handle. I have one problem though - the lid won't stay open and I can't think of a realistic way to hold it open yet....

Also don't forget if you close down the exhaust a little bit, it can slow the air through as well.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Duayne, The window is standard 4mm stove glass. I plan on putting a big window in the door but im running a test with the small bit to see if it tars up and becomes unusable, so far it looks OK. I found a company online who cut it to size, so I ordered a 100x100mm square and it was about £4. When I ...

Re: CENTERFEED RF

I think building a more squared off cabinet from scratch makes more sense than using a propane tank. Several reasons... First off, (this only applies to some people) it can be hard to get hold of propane tanks. In the UK at least, we don't really use them, and I couldn't find any when I looked. I al...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

So, everything is eaten, and the smoker is cooling down. I learnt some stuff today, that would be useful for people maybe. 1. There is a reason why they are called stick burners, and not massive hunks of log burners. I dunno why but i was putting huge logs in, then I was struggling to get temp, and ...

It's running great, stuck a load of cheap sausages in all sorted around and they cooked dead evenly. Got two chicken halves now on differnt racks and ends to test heat evenness again. Having fun

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Things are going well. I think I may have built the best barbecue in the world (by accident of course) Its holding temp amazingly well, its not eating much fuel, I have closed one of the exhausts and I have closed the vents down to about 1inch each (normaly 8inches wide) and its sitting perfectly wi...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

How's this for even heat... One probe in centre of the smoker over the fire and one right at the edge.

One degree!
