Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

That's just how the mesh arrived. Just welded the front door frame on and tried the door for size. Looks good. Gonna do another pass tomorrow to thicken the bead up and grind it smooth. The latch for the door is coming tomorrow.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Been doing more work, got the food rack rails in, and the front panel with the door opening cut for the firebox. The door is an overlapping type.

The firebox somehow ended up with a Bowed side. A big hydraulic jack has fixed that.

I also have the food grate grill, it's all very exciting.

Centre feed smoker, but like a normal offset RF smoker...

Hi Everyone, Was thinking today about my centre feed smoker. I know usually you have a baffle that has a gap at each end and an exhaust in the middle, but I got thinking, whats to stop you having the baffle open at one end only with the exhaust at the opposite end.... It would be like a normal RF of...

Re: My first build

Looks good, did you cut those with a grinder? I had to cut a door in my 5mm thick steel firebox today and I just couldn't face the noise and the sparks for half an hour so I chickened out and took it to a metal fabrications shop and they are cutting it for me with a plasma torch haha.

Exhaust output height....

Hi Everyone, Just thinking about my exhaust on my centre feed and i was wondering, are the outputs supposed to be right at the top? When i had my cheap nasty offset, I googled how to make it better and it said to lower the exhaust to the level of the grill, which I did. I dunno if thats just a worka...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Had a good day today, cut intakes and made and installed fire basket rails, and stood the cabinet on the top to see how it will look.

Tig welding in the wind is crap so I've been hiding under a tarpaulin to keep the wind away. Next up is the front door, damper shutters and the cabinet handle....

Re: Placment of dampers in centre feed smoker

Ah good, glad I had the right idea. Just done some pit calc checking. I have put a estimated intake size as 12x2inches (its going to be a 6x2 slot on each side). its saying intake count 1.22 - is that just a funny way of saying the intakes are too small? Im assuming I need to tweak to get that numbe...

Placment of dampers in centre feed smoker

Hi Everyone, Building a centre feed smoker at the moment, I have a build thread going for it, but I have a question which I felt warranted its own topic. I need to put the air intake slots in the firebox. I am going to go for the rectangular slots with a slide over shutter over it, and a slot on eit...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

I have my firebox!!

I also have a bundle of angle steel and box section that arrived ready for the fire basket rails, and I hope to install those and start on the dampers this weekend. I need some advice regarding the position and size of the damper holes, pitcalc is nt really setup for centre flow.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

I am picking the steel up for the firebox tomorrow. The firebox is 500x500mm square and 650mm high, 5mm thick walls. The steel is £110, and to have it welded entirely is 40 pounds.

Gonna be good :D

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi everyone, Was about time I did more work on this build. The wind is bad, and tig welding in the wind is hard work, so I just managed to get the main cc catches on this weekend. I also got a 1m piece of 30mm dia ash dowel for the handle. I'm hoping to use this smoker as a stick burner, and oak is ...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Well over here you can't get boston butts from anywhere (or briskest and ribs are hard to get too) so the only option is to go to a butcher and get him to cut It off the animal for you, so no added anything (other than cost, one 3kg (about 7lbs) Boston butt is about 15 quid, so about 23 dollars lol ...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi Gizmo, Yes, pillars holding up the plate. I want the top cooking chamber to be easily separable from the base, so that assembly with the pillars will likely be part of the cooking chamber, with just a plain hole in the firebox for the cooking chamber to sit on. The water pans will most likely be ...

Re: Welding question

Everything I do is 100 percent tig welded. Its incredibly slow, and requires two hands, you cant get into some places that you can with mig, and the argon is expensive, but the welds are really strong, and the heat penetrates very well.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi Everyone, I have decided to dump the gravity feed and go back to centre feed. I did a 12 hour cook in my small RF offset yesterday and I dunno why but its made me loose all faith in the gravity feed system in a side firebox format on a horizontal smoker that large... Id love to make it but theres...

Re: Edgar is underway...

Hi Gozmo, I'm thinking of making my cabinet a center flow again (I was gonna make a gravity feed...) One question, how long can it run for unattended? I wanna start putting stuff in at 1am and leaving it overnight and I wanna be able to trust till, what so you run it on? Quite keen on stick burning,...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

Hi everyone, Been ages since I updated this. It's cold and windy outside (TIG in the wind is not fun) so the cabinet remains untouched, but I have done the hanging basket for my gravity feed system I've come up with. It's made of 8mm stainless rod and it's 200x200mm square and 75 deep (8x8x3"). Next...

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

I've beefed up all the joints and it looks sufficiently basket like. Need to cut it down to height then weld the boarder on and then need to put the bars on the ends and it will be done.

I started on the basket properly today. Made a wooden clamp to hold the ribs straight, and then welded together. Looks like a robots rib cage.

Re: Centre feed reverse flow build (for Metric meat only)

In answer to Big Ts comment about ashes, having looked at stumps, stumps clones and the Viking smoker, they all show a very low ash output. I dunno why, maybe it gets burnt, maybe it gets blown into the smoker, i dunno... There's a good space for ash in this smoker though, 250x250x125mm or so (10x10...
