Re: First Project

Yes - I'm not quite sure what it will take to move it - may have to install a kingpin on the trailer so I can use one of our tractors to haul it :kewl: Gizmo - Not sure what it would classify as (the wok that is) so not sure where to list a thread for it... We are thinking that we will install...

Re: First Project

Finally had a chance to install the second BP - the extra picture is the sections cut from the FB openings - welded them together to make a football shaped wok for our tailgating. Have a stand designed in the ol noggin for it to set on over a propane burner or we can put charcoal in it to grill over...

Re: Insulated firebox vs. 1/2 inch plate firebox

Digging this post back up :kewl: - Im currently building my smoker FB and BP out of 3/4" plate - I know, I know but it's "free" :-bd - I will let you know how it comes out - Its pretty time consuming actually (but it does free up the mind after a long day) - only getting about three or four pieces c...

Re: First Project

We will hang it from a crane and get an accurate weight. Then comes the fun of naming it and building a trailer to pull it around. It's coming along slowly, but so far I've been lucky and haven't had to cut anything back off - knock on wood - sometimes I feel like I'm over thinking it but it's worke...

Re: First Project

Just a couple update pics - first is the fire boxes.... Well at least the materials for the fire boxes (disregard the 1 1/2" plates that it's sitting on that's for another project)

The other one is of course the doors trimmed in 3/16 x 2" flat bar - still need some cleaning up but otherwise done

Re: Egor

Gizmo - We might not, but will keep the option available - I guess I have borrowed enough smokers that I don't particularly like working around the tire / wheel combination. Just thinking if I have a viable option of removing it that I would like it much better (we shall see) :kewl:

Re: Egor

Gizmo - I'm going to make the wheels on mine pinned on so that they are removable, so like yours it will have adjustable stands with worm gears for minute adjustments - so its jack the tongue up (off the hitch) jack it down to set the back stands, then jack it up to raise the wheels off the ground a...

Re: First Project

Jay - Thanks and I will get with you and see how I can make it happen - Dad was an original plank member of Seal Team 2 and the anchor that is in front of their facility in Virginia Beach was recovered by him and another team member... Everything that I'm doing on the smoker is a reflection of him. ...

Re: First Project

Rod - that's just where the FB will attach to the CC - the throat opening will be in the back of the FB - the FB top will also extend into the CC as the BP - wow! that's a ton of abbreviations =))

Re: First Project

That's what I'm hoping for - I think if I can bring the temp up nice and steady and get it to my set point it should hold for quite awhile - the 3/4" BP will stay hot for hours and hours - every aspect of this thing is heavy duty - the fab hinges will be made from 1" x 2" steel bars - stacks will be...

I think at the price I will give them a try - If they last a year or two then that's not to bad I guess - I'm a tinkerer at heart so changes will be forthcoming - :kewl:
