may just be the picture but the throat on the fire box looked a little big have you checked the sizes on the pit calculator

Do you use any type of gasket seal between the baffle plate and the frame it sits in or just sit in the frame metal to metal an don't worry about any leaks

what is the hole in the end of the cook chamber is that for the stack?

Well calling it a day firebox welded up throat cut out and welded the firebox to the cook chamber ready to put the baffle plate in but that's another day and fab a firebox door

Made a little progress so far going to try and get a few more things done before calling it a day
