Re: First build underway.

The rest of my build is on hold for now. We've got the house on the market, and are looking for a new one. Be back soon.

Re: First build underway.

Gave her a two hour quick test drive today, heated up to 300º in 48 minutes. Brought the temp down to about 230-250, and held it there the rest of the time. Only snapped a quick pic of the smoke coming out, not sure if you can even see it though. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5480/12257294303_360f88...

Gonna fire this thing up for a test run on Saturday, and work on finishing the rest of the grill grates.
Pics will follow of course.

Re: New builder question

Tanner that looks great! The dimensions are almost the same as the one i'm building, except my CC is vertical instead of on it's side. Here's a link to my build thread, viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3457

Re: First build underway.

Ran out of C25 today, but I did get a charcoal basket made, finished a couple of grill grates too. Couple of pics. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3749/12158323094_c31591a5ce.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5550/12158594666_8b6a6a7a39.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3671/12157911755_1c30952d66.jpg

Re: New build 20 gal air tank

Where do you guys score these tanks? Before I started my build I looked all over the place and couldn't find anything. I ended up just buying steel, cutting it, and welding it.

Re: First build underway.

Made the frames for a couple of grill grates today and put on the chimney. I also put on the door gasket for the CC, welded the firebox and CC together. Only took one pic.

Re: First build underway.

Did one more thing. I drilled the hole and added the Tel-Tru for the pic. Still need to add the chimney, build the grill grates and install the gasket on the CC door. Then she'll be ready for smoke, hopefully in time for the SuperBowl.

Re: First build underway.

I cut the schedule 80 at an angle, so when it gets latched it pulls the door a little tighter for a nice seal.

Re: First build underway.

Its the little things that always takes the longest. The above is so true. I only got to get a little bit done today. I finished the damper and put a handle on it, also made a door handle for the firebox. Couple more pics for ya. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5538/12020264226_3bfac508b4.jpg http://...

Re: First build underway.

Just a little progress today, had a family birthday party to goto. I put a couple of rails inside the firebox to hold a charcoal basket, and worked on making the air intake for the firebox. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3752/11918955763_f10c4ee6d3.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2824/11919131074_1...

Re: First build underway.

Despite the rain, I got some work done. Put the CC and firebox on the stand so I could take a look at it. I then cut the openings to join the two together. I also got the rails for the cooking grates tacked in place. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2849/11894908843_e65a127693.jpg http://farm4.staticfl...

Caliper paint?

I was in Autozone the other night and noticed the caliper paint they have is rated to 900º. I'm wondering if anyone has used this before? Obviously this would be fine for the CC, but how do you think it would work for the firebox? I'd like to do something different than the standard black hi-heat. A...
