Re: Gotta be a compromise ?

"Use the right tool for the job" they say and I totally agree. However sometimes money, space, or other things have to come into consideration and a "multi-tool" does a very good job. Never had a problem cooking perfect brisket ribs and chickens on my 24" grill or my 36" grill with an indirect fire....

Re: Ribs and rub

if you put on too much rub, it can overpower the ribs I always wondered about the Bbq cook-off shows and how they seemed to coat the ribs to the point you didn't see the meat anymore. I tried that ONCE and threw them in the trash. Those rubs are more savory and low on salt, too much salt will dry o...

Re: New build, 16x36 grill

lol Puff I feel your pain have tried them and wonder if it's me? Gonna just use the torch tomarrow, trying to finish it in time for the weekend cook off. Thanks Rod will try that, been since 2011 that I have not built a cooker so cant even remember how I did the doors then.

New build, 16x36 grill

Started the build yesterday hoping to finish by weekend but highly unlikely. Curious if you guys weld the sides closed before cutting out the doors with a torch or do you do the doors first then weld the sides? Pipe is 3/8 thick btw but just wondering about warpage during the welding of the side pla...

Re: Opinions on this smoker

The fb is inset 3 inches into the chamber and has a half moon open design. As good as it looks it was a very problematic smoker at the beginning. The one you see now is a modified to work version and the builder has redesigned his smokers based on the issues this one had. I also had to block off the...

Re: So talking about firebox size?

My thoughts are that heat expands in a too big box and has trouble "flowing" to the chamber, have seen many cookers back flow out back even with stack wide open.

So talking about firebox size?

The small trailer smoker i built back in 2011 had a way oversize box, took a lot of time testing and tuning to get the openings right so it would cook evenly and get a clean burn. The smoker I currently use basically had the same dilemma, I did't know about the feldmans calculator back in 2011 but n...

Re: Lincoln welders ?

Thanks for the reply's, I don't have deep pockets for sure, lol. I do plan to build several bbq grills and smokers this year and as I stated I like to refurbish old stuff, my lincoln acdc stick burner with 6011's does a good job there, I know I know everyone hates 6011 but man it will weld through a...

Lincoln welders ?

I see a lot more people in love with the millers and Hobart's than the Lincolns, the local welding supply says the lincolns are the brand for pro's around here and Millers although good are not as durable in commercial settings. They sell both btw. I'm in the market for a 220 mig and I'm at this poi...

Re: Lp tank vs pipe

Down here the lp tanks are closer to 3/16 may a bit less thick where the pip we can buy down here is at least 1/4" thick or thicker. Main down side I have seen down here with cold roll sheets is that it peels off in layers, mainly in the firebox where the pipe does not do that, I think the pipes we ...

Re: Carne Asada recipe

What do you mean by "carne asada"? It has different meanings in different regions. Down here is south Texas by the border for most people it means meat (mostly beef fajitas and beef ribs) cooked directly over live mesquite coals or charcoal. Some taquerias call it that even when cooked on the hot pl...

Re: Trailer lights wiring?

Yes I have that Rod, but my truck has two others spliced in too, one for gooseneck and another one is the smaller round one plus the third one we all use for light trailers. So I need to get rid of the other two.
tnx
