Looks like a bank vault. I love it. I like the label too - Front Door. Just incase you can't figure out where the wood goes. Good on you.
HAHA. That is my labeling left over from when I made all my cuts..... It will be hidden under the paint!

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

I used stainless steel hardware. They seemed to hold up fairly nice on my other smoker's FB.

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

I have the following latch on my current smoker (both CC and FB)

Image

What are the advantages of the following latch versus the one above?

No hang up. Rounded edges on the rails. Should work [emoji106] I’ll do the other side tomorrow. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200524/888bd42b6bad7a63b978c6332945fe13.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200524/d505e6fe27c5cb07920547741f917b46.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200524/ca9f...

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

Should work although I have never seen it done that way. I would round the edges of the damper a bit where they contact your angled slide just to make them slide easier. I don’t have any small angle..... Trying to make something work but don’t want to cut corners. It’s slides easy with the edges ro...

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

That's a well built fire basket and should last for a very long time! If I could make a suggestion, you might consider lowering the side that faces the fire box door. It makes it easier to add a split of wood without having to pull the basket out, that's if you don't have a lot of overhead room. Th...

That looks great. What kind of trailer was that (boat, jetski)? Was the trailer non-galvanized steel?

I like the diamond plate floor that you put on it. That will look awesome when finished.

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

Ditto on the dropped front. Makes a huge difference in ease of loading splits. I have had really good luck with the expanded metal firebox and built my bottom into a ‘'V' shape to keep the logs together for a better burn. I was considering the "V" shape. I think that is a great idea. My other smoke...

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

@Mankussm, thanks. You’ve just given me an idea of how I can do something better on my FB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I used expanded metal on my last one, and the bottom fell out after a few years. I want this one to last longer than the pit! This was the last basket I built (not the great...

I like the size of it, I need to find a tank like that. Looks good!
24"x46.5"

Oddly enough I found another and will start it as soon as this one is complete!

Of course... I will post that build too.

Absolutely. Just need to button up the FB, racks, door, dampers, and final touches.

Get a first cook in then paint.

Hope to do all that by the end of the month [emoji38]

Re: Second Build Underway! Patio Model

If it were to go onto a trailer, I’d worry about the extra stress on your welds between the fb and the cc and the other mount points to the frame. All that weight bouncing down the highway wrenching on the frame if you didn’t hard mount it. I don’t think a couple extra mount points between the FB a...

Second Build Underway! Patio Model

Thanks for the insight on casters. Tried to make some work that I already had....

Going to purchase different ones with wider bolt hole pattern to clear the 2” sq tube.

Setup will look similar to this build.

Second Build Underway! Patio Model

Can you move those casters to the outside corners? Looks tippy with them pushed in from the edges. Good observation. That's why it helps to have a second set of eyes  I would have to weld the caster directly to the frame, because the bolt hole will not be exposed enough. The casters in the ph...
