Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Should i use primer and paint or just use rustoleum high temp paint. Is the primer worth the extra step. Ive never used this high temp stuff.

Re: My First Build...so far with pics

I went and bought a Dewalt 7" angle grinder for cutting my stuff. I think it was $120 but it actually works pretty well. I cut the bell off of 1 end of the 500 gallon propane tank with only 2 blades but it took about 30 minutes to do.

Re: dual smokers, one firebox

I was thinking about the same idea when I was planning the smoker I'm building now. I've seen a couple built that way. One guy i talked to that has one wished he would have just built 1 bigger one. He said its hard to keep the airflow right in both of them at the same time. I decided to just build a...

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Thanks. I need to put the new pictures up. The smoker is done except to screw the thermometers in that i ordered from this website when they come in. Hopefully tomorrow. And i need to make some sort of fire basket for the firebox. The firewood boxes in the front are done too along with the slide out...

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Right. The propane tanks will ride and be mounted on the front of the trailer. I was thinking about making a removable pipe burner for the firebox to help start the fire but make it hook up the same way and make it long enough to where the hose will stay out of the firebox. Yes or no.

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

No im going to have 2 burners beside the firebox for warming beans or anything else i can think to put on them. Im just asking if it would be alright to just mount the fryers to the trailer and when i need them just unhook a propane tank from the front of the trailer and hook it up to the burners an...

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Well let me ask yall this. What if i just made my hook up to where i could just set a propane tank next to the firebox or the deep fryer burners in the back to where i could hook up a regular bbq grill regulator and hose to it. That would be safe right? It would be the same thing as frying something...

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Alright I found some threads on gas and Franks safety thread and now I'm really thinking the way to go is just stick with my first plan of making it a charcoal and wood grill. Getting burned or blowing up is really on my hobby list.

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

I'm wanting to make this 150 gallon into a huge propane grill but put a plate vertically in between the two doors so I don't have to heat the whole thing if i don't have to. My idea is to make a triple burner for each side under the slide out grates.

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Alright I have a question. I'm wanting to make the 150 gallon a huge propane grill. I'm thinking about dividing the tank in half with a 1/4" plate and making a triple burner like the one in the picture. Do you guys think this will work? If anyone has a better idea I'll listen.

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Alright I haven't been keeping up with the pictures but here's what I've accomplished in the past couple nights. I've got the stainless tables mocked up where they're going to go and started to the frame for where the doors will go underneath them for storage, the fenders are installed, I framed out...

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Thanks for the compliments.
I was able to do some smoking on the smaller smoker i have. I smoked a ham and a jalapeno bacon brisket and they both turned out pretty good. I know if there's no pictures it didn't happen so here you go.

I got the slide out racks done this weekend, made the cap for the smoke stack and cut out the holes on top of the 150 gallon and patched those up.

Re: 500 gallon smoker with 150 gallon cooker

Hey guys im wanting to finish up the baffle plate but i dont know how much area to leave open on the end for the smoke to come up. I think i remember reading that it needs to be the same area as the opening from firebox to cook chamber but i could be wrong. Thanks for any input.
