Re: 500 Gallon Reverse Flow Build

My first smoker was a 500 gallon and i wished I had done square doors. I think square doors look better than counterweights sticking up but this is just personal preference. There's really no right or wrong.

Re: 80 gallon vertical smoker

I fired it up to season it. This thing is really low maintenance. I only had to touch it once in 3 hours. I'm gonna be doing an all nighter tomorrow night to cook some pork butts and a couple fattys for my son's birthday party on saturday. It looks like this thing should do what is supposed to Sent ...

Re: My first build with 24" pipe

I'm having the same problem with my vertical build. I plan on wrapping a chain around the tank and putting a bar inside the door where it starts to bend out too far and hooking a come-along to it to get it to close more, then heat up the door to get the right contour i'm looking for. I'm planning on...

Re: 250 gallon patio build

20 pork butts and didnt even have to use the verical box. Heck yeah! This thing ran within 10 degrees throughout the entire smoker once it was warmed up. And that bbq gasket is awesome.

Re: 250 gallon patio build

Got the smoker ready to paint just need to finish cooking grates and fire basket. I used Frank's design for the cook chamber latch. It took a while but it is really cool. Thanks Frank for going into such good detail on your mack build. I'll get it painted tomorrow and seasoned before Saturday for th...

Re: 250 gallon patio build

Is it necessary to weld the inside and outside of the seams of the cook chamber and the vertical/ firebox or is just welding the outside fine?

Once I get the bottom of the firebox welded in I'm going to add short legs underneath it. What kind of gasket have you used?

Re: 250 gallon patio build

I was planning on buying this gasket to seal to cook chamber and warming box. Its the 3/4 x 1/8 self stick gasket. I don't think it will hold up on the firebox. Is this what you guys would get to seal it up?

Re: rack spacing

I ran my baffle plate 4" below mine and it works good. If I built another one that size I would have it angled to where it was 6" below near the firebox and 3" below on the side farthest away from the firebox to help even out the radiant heat getting to the meat. I don't know how much it will help b...

Re: My first 300 Gal RF Smoker - Jimmy Sean

The warmer box does not go into the calculation for the firebox size. I don't think this smoker will be that tall and I think going with square doors will help with height concerns since you will be opening them towards you instead of lifting up and down. For the minimum height of the firebox, you w...

Re: 250 gallon patio build

Using all new metal and not having to mess with a propane tank is really nice. I feel like it actually has saved me time and saved me from the nasty smell you have to burn out. I'm kinda thinking about not using tanks again.

Re: Firebox size

I think it still needs to be the same size as what the calculator says because of the btus subject and proper burning of wood. Someone may correct me on that so see if someone else chimes in on this but i think thats what ive heard.
