Re: Smoker Builder Temp Guages

I am needing to buy thermometers as well. I found on bbqsmokersupply.com the smokerbuilder TelTru thermometers or at least the picture is of the smokerbuilder TelTru thermometer. They are $32.00 compared to the $19 dollars for the ones on smokerplans.net. I hope someone else can shed some light on t...

Re: Smoker Builder Temp Guages

Smokerplans.net has the 3" dial with the 4" stem. It doesn't say it is TelTru but says it can be calibrated to within 3 degrees.

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Big T I wondered how hard it was going to be to pull it so I could add wood. Never thought about making it lower. Thanks I will modify it next weekend.

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Puff, I tested the scissor jack this weekend, and I am happy to announce it work great. The heat did not affect the ability of the Jack to lift the charcoal basket up and down. I also got the fire box attached, and made the wood basket for the firebox. I pleased with the way it turned out. 2015-03-0...

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Good point... I was thinking about not installing a drain pipe on the BP, but if it is not permanently affixed then it can be removed to be cleaned and allow access to the CC since I won't have it from the firebox.

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Puff, sorry no I have not tested it yet, my eye strayed to the unfinished firebox. It is supposed to be 60 on Sunday, so maybe I will finish the grate tomorrow night and give it a try on Sunday. I promise to let you know how it worked. Good idea on placing the BP in un-welded and trying first... but...

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Ok... so need some opinions... Since the firebox is going to be remote I have made a tapered connections as Gizmo recommended. It is 10 X 6 at CC and 10 X 8 at the firebox. I am in the process of attaching it to the CC and wanted to know if I should trim it where it enters the CC. See pic below for ...

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Seems like it has been forever since I had time to work on the smoker... But got a little time this weekend and was able to put the seal on the doors and doors set in place. Also added the smoke stack. I wanted 1 stack for both the grill and smoker, so I took a 4X4 square tubing and split it in half...

In Texas we just hand out the concealed handgun permit with your Drivers License. :D

Just kidding, but it is about that easy. The class use to be 2 days now it is down to 6 hours, and once you have the permit you no longer have to re-certify every 2 years.

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

It is a 1 1/2 ton Jack, so I hope I wont have trouble lifting the charcoal basket up and down a few inches. :D Puff, I am not sure about the heat. I am making the basket removable so I can get to the screw and grease it if it starts to seize. I am hoping to be far enough along on the grill side to t...

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

I was able to spend a little time working on the grill this weekend. I added the air inlet for the grill side and used a screw jack to make the charcoal adjustable within the grill.

RC you are Right. It will be under the right side and will be a straight shot up. I am planning on connecting the Firebox on the top to help force heat up as well.

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

The calculator calls for an 8.13 in round opening for the CC to Firebox opening. I had a post a while back where we debated a remote firebox, and Gizmo suggested tapering with Large End at Firebox. My steel yard had a piece of 9X8 square tubing, and I have been trying to come up with a way to make a...

Re: Reverse Flow w/ Remote Firebox and Grill

Finally able to spend a little time working on it this weekend. I put the plate in between the Grill side and the smoker CC. Also got the grill door back in shape and attached. Also was able to start welding up the firebox. Just need to put on the door and connect it to the CC with a pipe. Didn't ta...
