Re: My build

Next question...I bought an iGrill remote temp monitor. What is the best way to route the cords from the cc to the monitor? I really don't want to route them through the cc door gasket. Is the there a standard size hole and some sort of plug that most folks use?

Re: If one needed a backyard grill....

If your looking for a gas grill my vote is for Weber. I never bought the El cheapo grills but didn't ever want to pony up for a Weber either...I finally did and can't believe how much I had been missing out on. It warms up quick, holds temperature well and cooks evenly. Be prepared to spend $700+ th...

Re: Feasible to build a small smoker with scraps?

Dude - don't give up so soon. You can't make the little tank bigger but you can make the big one smaller for free. There has to be a cool way to make the keg work. You could keep the outside dimensions the same and put a false floor in it or you could cut the end off that will mate to the cc to come...

Re: My build

That's what I used too - I wasn't 100% sure it would hold a 100 lb hog without sagging though so I put a center brace in for good measure. Too much is ok, right? 8-)

Re: My build

Next question...how much of a span do you go without a support down the middle? My top rack is 24", my bottom is 29 1/2"

Re: My build

If anything the stack is a fuzz on the large side. I wasn't sure if I should count the 45 on the top or not...so I didn't count it and also didn't figure stack volume until it was at the top of the cc. I hope it works...I sure like the way it looks.

I opened up the chimney today and fabbed up the charcoal box. Heading to the fab shop tomorrow to have the cc door re-rolled. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/09/2bbdd3c0e99333dc676e690202802a88.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/09/eee034a9af9672ff3e562617a15fb262.jpg 20150709_183351.jpg

Re: New to the Forum and first question :)

One way to learn and use top of the line equipment is to take a class at the local tech school. I haven't done it myself but the guy I bought my welder from many moons ago was taking classes just to use their machine shop.

Re: My build

I designed the trailer - it's the first trailer I've ever built so there was a fair amount of head scratching. I ordered the axle from a local supplier that had it custom built for me. The axle and associated stuff cost $165.

Re: Trying to think outside of the smoker

right. sorry it is not clear. the smoke travels from below through tubes that also serve as the grill rack. notches cut in the tubes release smoke next to the meat. Are the notches on the bottom side of the grate or top side? It would seem you would need a fair amount of holes to equal the throat v...

Welded the chimney in last night. Next step is to level off and set the smoker so it can be welded in place.

I'll still be building my cooker. I'm on call for the weekend so there won't be too much traveling or celebrating. That's ok with me though...we'll make up for it the following weekend. :P
