Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Did you say you were going to build a simple actuator ???? :wtf: Don't slack up now!! That thing is a Beast, you're lucky you didn't have to call a tow truck to get it back on the wheels! Lol, I plan on a simple arm with a connecting rod to the exhaust lid. It'll have a guide that it moves in, and ...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Never tried boudin, but I'm willing to learn! Smoker looks great! Thanks man! Boudin is actually pretty easy. Here's the recipe I used: 1 (4-pound) pork roast Water, for braising and boiling 1 pound pork liver 2 cups rice 2 large yellow onions, diced 6 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped 4 tablesp...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Here are the pics; first one is the drip diverters on the doors. Pretty straightforward, with the exception being the vertical door. I wanted it to drip into the horizontal, so I made a trough for the drippings to get to the drain from the vertical to the horizontal. I also final welded the handles ...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Strong Work! Thanks man! Don't let it bother you. We all make mistakes as we learn. If it were me, I'd cut them off set the doors and either weld on new ones or reuse the old ones. The doors should work really well because you will use this many times over a very long time. Yeah but it really sucks...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Been kinda busy the last few weeks, sorry I haven't posted. Just wanted to back up to before thanksgiving and show the progress I made. I was really surprised at just how easy the gaskets were to put on the door. I was prepared to have to screw them down for the gasket cement to set, but no need. Th...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

It takes a while and several burns to work through the variables of wind direction, water in wood, type of wood, ect.... Keep up the good work and we want pictures. And samples!!! I can help you out with the pics, but as far as samples - Big T is actually close enough to have some. Believe it or no...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Thanks guys!! Well I played it safe on Thanksgiving and used my MES for the first bird, and did the second on the smoker........It didn't turn out too well. It was done, but it was cooked way too hot. It seemed to need way too much fuel to get to the temp needed. While dismayed, I decided I needed t...

Thanks Guys!! Well I just might make it! I worked on it until nighttime on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday after church I got it to a point where I can cook the turkeys in it! WOOHOO!! Here's how I welded up the door skins; the way I did the doors for the horizontal were just like I did the rest of ...

Re: 40 Gal build

I'd stay away from the torch as much as possible. Too much heat input = warping. If you tack weld a piece of scrap material over the hole, you can use that as your center.

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

I was looking at the wheels on this rig and thought about rolling it up a slight incline... It should be part of a tractor pull or iron man competition Lol, don't I know! I put all swivel casters on it, but I am seriously thinking of making one end fixed. It is very hard to get it to go straight......

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Got a good bit done Friday, and actually dodged the rain a good bit today to at least get the vertical's doors framed out. Here's the backside of the smoker, with all the exhausts cut out. The vertical has two exhaust ports, one high and one low. The low is for reverse flow operation, which is proba...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

Hey at least Momma is on board with the idea. My wife says you will never be done with your trailer rig. That's because I keep adding things to it. I see her point but I believe I finished it 3 or 4 times already. As long as I'm able to use it after I make my additions it's done. At least until I c...

Re: Bkndsdl's Insulated Hybrid

I like that you're thinking about how to build it so you can use it differently. Nice work. Thanks man. That's the whole idea with this build, I want to use it for as much as I possibly can; as many things in one cooker vs several different cookers. I can cook whatever I want on this puppy! Didn't ...
