Re: My first build 60 Gallon RF

I need the BP 4" from the bottom of my cook chamber. I am making my bottom grate 2" above my BP so that I can have 2 racks. I want my top rack about 8" off the bottom so I will still have about 5" of clearance on my top rack. That should be more then enough for ribs and chicken.

My first build 60 Gallon RF

I am building a 60 gallon RF. I have a question for you guys. I have the door cut out and now I am trying to figure out how to cut the opening for the firebox. I know I need my RF plate 4" off the bottom but I don't have a clue how to transfer my lines to the tank.

Firebricks in firebox

I am wanting to use fire bricks in my fire box. I want to place bricks across the bottom then go one brick (9" high) on the sides. My fire box will be 18Lx20.5Wx18T. Do I need to go ahead and take the brick to the top of the firebox or will one brick high be enough?

RF chimney location

I am wondering if the placement of the chimney opening matters from being directly on top to a tapered cut down the side of the rounded part of my tank.

Re: 60 gallon RF build

That's a great calculator. I'll be able to get plenty room for both racks now. Thanks!

60 gallon RF build

I am starting on a 60 gal RF build tomorrow. Its an old air compressor tank. Feldons bbq calc says I need a fb to cc opening of 10.12 dia and 40 sq inches. How close to the bottom can I get my RF plate? Also I want two racks and I have heard anywhere from 2-4" off the RF plate is normal. How close c...

rack spacing

I am build a 500 gallon propane tank RF smoker. What is the spacing needed between the racks and RF plate for proper airflow through the cook chamber? Also how far off the bottom do I need to put the RF plate? Thanks in advance.

Firebox design square or round

Hey folks, This is my first time posting and I have a question about the design of my fire box. I have 2 - 500 gallon propane tanks and my plan was to make two smokers but money has ran short and I am considering using part of the second tank as my fire box. Is there any benefit to using a round fir...
