Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

The drip tray just funnels to the drain valve. It is not attached to the valve.

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

I figured with the powder coating included it cost me just over $2200.00. Plus towards the end of the build I was not looking for the best price for parts. I was just getting whatever was most convenient and quick to receive.

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

It doesn’t look that bad. It looks kind of like darkening from smoke. So I can live with it.

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

The coating around the firebox has darkened. There is hairline checking around the other areas that gets hotter than you would want to touch. You have to get in really close to see them but they are there. Other than that it is holding up nicely. I think the coating around the firebox will continue ...

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

I used a dimple die to punch out a hole. The punch also rolls the edge inward. I then just welded the punched out piece back into the now countersunk rolled edge.

Re: Powder coating

I power coated mine. It is candy red over a silver viening (hammer finish). This is NOT the high temp powder coating. The powder coater was also concerned about the heat issues. I had to assure him that it was heavily insulated. I also added additional insulation around the fire box to help with pos...

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Here are a couple of pictures of what I've cooked up yesterday for the Super Bowl. I love how this Smoker works. She runs consistent at any temp I want. With VERY little management. I did find that it has a hotter spot on the lower grill near the back.(closest to the transfer channel). Other that th...

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Sweet, you should be very happy with that. So what's next? Well my wife has Demanded (yes "Demanded" with a Capitol "D"), a Woodfired Pizza Oven to match the Smoker. Below are a couple of pictures of what I'm thinking so far. Still a lot of research to do yet. This all started so innocently. A frie...

The Czar wrote:Very nice!!! Who did the paint? It looks like a hammered finish?
Yes it is a hammered finish, Pacific Coast Powder Coating in Palmdale CA. did the coating. It is a candy red over silver vein. The door is gloss black hammered finish, along with the valve handles and rain cover.

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Sorry I forgot to say that it is powder coated. I beleive my son should be able to give this to his grand kids. If we take good care of it. Do any of you know which if any parts need replacement form years of use? I'm assuming that the grates and the charcoal grates will need replacement or repair e...

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Well here she is. All finished. Been running it all day to season it. She runs REAL steady at what ever temperature I set it at. Been going for 5 hours and only used about 3lbs of lump charcoal. I'm very happy.

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Ok, I have to get this smoker out for powder coating as soon as possible. I just made handles for the Air Intake, and Drain valves. I wanted them to match the rest of the handles on the smoker. I think I need help. I can't stop. Is this how it starts?

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

You're really showing off the technology with those handles. Very nice!! I've really liked having the use of my buddies CNC plasma cutter. It has really allowed me to personalize my smoker. I also plan on making custom handles for the ball valves, so they match the rest of the handles on the smoker...

Re: Baker's mini GF build

Hello Baker76, I had the same problem. I used a dimple die hole punch to cut out a hole and form a recessed edge. Then I welded the punched out piece back into the opening. It gave me a recessed area to put the thermometer in and shortened the thickness of the the door enough to put the wing nut on....

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

I have to now start welding up all the corners and edges. This seems like it will take forever. Here is a picture of it mocked up with all of its hardware in place. What gauge steel is everyone using for the smoke stack damper? 1/4" seems like over kill to me.

Re: Build thread, mini gravity fed smoker.

That looks awesome!!! Very nice job!!!

I have to agree on the sound of when they close. I did not expect it to sound this good. I've owned and driven cars with doors that didn't sound this good. I'm am definitely impressed with the design work of these smokers.

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Well my son had designed a branding iron for some cutting boards he is making. I modified it and cut it out of some 1/4" steel, and tacked it to the front of the smoker. My father, myself, and my son all have the same initials, so it will be his when I'm gone. It should look great after it's all pow...

Re: Another Mini Gravity Feed

Thanks guys. I too, am planning on making a stand to make it taller. In the mean time I'm going to build it with the standard wheels mounted like in the plans. When the stand is finished I will remount the wheels to the stand, and bolt the smoker to the stand where the wheels were previously mounted...

Getting excited over here. I welded the CC door on, and she swings perfectly. I'm happy as hell over here. She's starting to look like a smoker. Here some pictures.
