Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

CyberQ vs. Stoker?

Well, my smoker should be done in the next few weeks, and now I am starting to think about the controls. I would like to get as many opinions as possible on this. Which one would you go with? Why? Is there a difference in build quality? I have heard that the Stoker has TERRIBLE customer service, but...

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

Well, we are getting closer all the time. All that is left is the outer skin on the side with my ball valves. Then welding/grinding flat all the outside seams. Oh, and latches and paint! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/16/3d3cd03b1c12fbd50bd6f8ba5c95b494.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

If I am being honest, Puff, all i know for certain about that bike is that it is a Screamin Eagle edition. It is whatever Harley's top of the line model was around '08 or '09.

Re: Any plans for a humphreys battle box clone?

If you are thinking of going to the trouble of building a RF cabinet, you should give some consideration to a Stumps clone (also known as a Gravity Feed). Check out some of the build threads just below this one. They are pretty slick!

Getting some more done. Starting to skin the out side! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/04/4b7d6880231ce2d7e06eaf137df451de.jpg Also got the firebox door on her ( just tacked to test for fit). Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

I was talking about the outside with Dad, and I think I am going to have the outside powder coated. Out of curiosity, what would happen if I had the INSIDE powder coated? Is there any type of off gassing associated with powder coating? Just curious.

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

Yes, the waterpan is just above the fire box, tucked in behind the two horizontal pieces of 2x2. Here is the best pic I have right now of it:

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

Well, got the wheels on the bottom, and all sides insulated. I am thinking about pushing the wheels out to the far corners for more stability. The only down side will be the the wheels will stick out some from the cooker when I roll it around. Thoughts or advice? http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

I said earlier that there would be more on the waterpan/heat defelctor later. The bottom of the waterpan is a piece of 1/2 inch plate that my Dad had laying in his shop. Basically, it was cut to the inner dimensions of the smoker, then several 1.5 inch notches were cut out of itaround the perimeter ...

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

Getting the stack on. It is made from a piece of 5 inch square tubing we got from the scrap yard. 5 inch square tubing should be big enough, right? http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/20/12a21b574324ed65296378b0832afcad.jpg In this pic, you can just see how it comes out of the back of the smoker. Will be using two 2 inch ball valves to control the air flow. I will be adding a Stoker down the road. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/20/b...

Atama's vertical cabinet build

Being that I am also a real welding novice, I chose to keep all of the seam welds on the inside of the insulated panels, which can be seen in the last pic if you look closely on the far right hand side. We did it that way completely around all five sides. It was a good opportunity for me to get some...

Re: Atama's vertical cabinet build

Starting to get some racks in there. There are 4 in total made if 1 inch square tubing and expanded metal. The fitting is a 1.5 incher that is the drain for my waterpan/heat deflector (more on that one later :kewl: ) http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/20/ae6834a9417a30c38048ce0fb5ed37b2.jpg You ca...

Atama's vertical cabinet build

Originally, I intended for the smoker to be 30 inches deep on the outside corners, and 36 inches wide. That way it would only take one sheet of 12 ga. mild steel to skin the outside, not counting the top, bottom and doors. I wound up thinking that it was going to be way bigger than I planned and not...

Atama's vertical cabinet build

I have been meaning to do this for quite some time, just keep on getting busy. So, I wanted to do a retrospective build thread on my cabinet smoker. I guess that it is more a "clone" of a lonestargrillz than anything else, but was mainly meant as a fun project for my Dad and I. And, to tell the trut...

Preferred gasket?

I know that this is a bit of an odd topic, but I wanted to get a idea from those of you hwho have built more smokers than myself (which would be anyone who has actually COMPLETED one :D ). My build is coming along (I will try to get a build thread up on it, just a standard vertical insulated smoker)...

Re: To reverse flow, or not?

OK, that sounds pretty easy. Next question: If I go with a self adhesive or RTV applied gasket, can I come back later with a tadpole type gasket that is mechanically secured to the smoker? Thanks for all your help!

Re: To reverse flow, or not?

Even with a full overlay door, I still have to account for the thickness of the gasket. How to y'all do that? I assume that you figure some percentage of the uncompressed thickness of the gasket?

Re: To reverse flow, or not?

I should be able to get most of the interior skin tacked in, if not finish welded this weekend, which has me thinking about my next challenge. Mounting the doors. I think I am going to flush mount them a la the pitmaker vault smoker. My question is how do a account for the gasket that will seal the ...
