Re: Paint for Insulated Gravity Feed?

I wish I had spent the extra money for the better paint roller. I got the cheapest one and it left alot of fuzz in the paint.

Re: Paint for Insulated Gravity Feed?

I only used high temp grill paint on the fire box door and curb. On the rest of it I rolled on the rustololium hammered finish. I have probably cooked on it 10 times since paint and it is holding up good. [attachment=0]_20160621_220442.JPG[

Re: My Mini Build

Sounds good. I think it will look great. I think the top door and curb are safe to paint if you want them burgundy.

Re: My Mini Build

The door curb around the ash box get hot enough on mine to turn purple and sizzles if anything liquid touches it. The rest of the Smoker you can leave your hand on it.

Re: Welduns mini build

I haven't noticed any drippings since the weather has warmed up.

Re: Transfer tube

It would be better for the dripping but I don't know if it would affect the performance. Maybe someone else has input on that.

Re: Transfer tube

There is two things I would like to change on mine. One is a deflector deverting the drippings from the smoke stack to the back. I currently put a dish on the top rack to catch this but that cuts down on cooking space. Second is making the grease deflector on the door fit a bit tighter to the door o...

Re: Transfer tube

If you wanted to tune it in after you try it out , What would be easier, adding holes later or filling holes later?

Great job, paint looks sweet. They do run great. Mine ran for 13hrs today without adding additional coal. I am excited about that.

There is a page in the plans that tells you the order. I don't remember what it is off the top of my head.

Re: Choosing the right size

The hole is a bit big for the pipe. I welded a coupler to the firebox and screwed the pipe into that, then welded the pipe to the coupler.

Re: Stumps clone

I welded mine first, then ground weld down so it would fit through the cook chamber wall.

Re: Baker's mini GF build

Smoker looks good!
I do not have a digital thermometer, but I think the cook chamber is warmer than my dial thermometer is reading.
Are you consistently gettin that much difference in your readings? Yes, the temp difference between the probe and the door thermo was consistent. The two chi...

Re: Baker's mini GF build

I pulled the bacon at the 6 hr mark temp was at 297. I opened the ash door while I had the cook chamber open taking the bacon off and closed it when I was done. The temp recovered within minutes this time. It is now at the 7 hr mark and the temp is 306. I am really happy with how this is running, I ...

Re: Baker's mini GF build

Closed intake to 1/4 open for the next hr. At the 2 hr mark temp was at 275. Opened intake so lever was at a 45 deg angle. At the 3 hr mark temp was at 295. At the 4 hr mark temp was 305. Added bacon to all three racks . temp dropped to 230 and was slow to climb. At the 5 hr mark temp was at 288. Th...

Re: Baker's mini GF build

I only had one chimney of lump charcoal and I didn't know how long that would last so I added a chimney of briquettes to the charcoal chute. I used a weed burner for about two minutes to light the coal from the ash box. I left the ash door open for about 30 min. then closed it and ran with the ball ...
