Re: CyberQ

I have the PartyQ and I like that I can control the temps with it as well as it does. I'm debating on what my next controller will be purchasing by end of year). There have been some new ones to the market since I bought mine.

Re: How many types of smokers do you have?

Finishing up a double pan GF. There's a [commercial] Brinkmann charcoal grill that also lives here. The leaky old horizontal offset (Brinkmann, actually newer than the grill,) is going to be going away once I get a little rework done on the GF. There's probably no reason I can't cut it up and get r...

Re: 330 Gallon LP Tank Design - How does it look so far?

I added 6 inches to the end of the BP but now my throat is under the recommended. It changes from 224 sq. in. to 233 sq. in. What kind of difference would that make on the back pressure? If I add the end cap at the end of the cylinder, that will add more volume but open up some room to allow better ...

Re: 330 Gallon LP Tank Design - How does it look so far?

Thanks Big T... The "Special" section under Cook Chamber is the volume of the cabinet section. I did the cylinder first and then added the cabinet section by using AutoCAD to determine the area and then multiplying that by how many inches across inside. I'm not sure that I like how close the end of ...

330 Gallon LP Tank Design - How does it look so far?

Hey all! First off - I'm really excited and nervous at the same time. This is going to be my primary BBQ trailer and I don't want to mess it up and I need as much "useable" space as possible on it to grow. I'm excited to start breaking down and build back up into the beast it will become. Let me kno...

Decisions, decisions...

Well, I'm finally taking the plunge into making my own LP tank smoker from start to finish. I came into pocession of a 330 gallon tank that I heard of through word of mouth that they just wanted it gone. Of course, I volunteered to take it from them and give it a new home where it can perform delici...

What?!, what?! Didn't I just post in this thread?? :? Anyhoo, lol, Tel-Tru are great, River Country are great too & about 1/2-1/3 the price. :kewl: Squiggle has this right. First preference is Tel-Tru but to save a few bucks you can always go with River Country. I tested the River Country and they ...

Adding Drain Pipes

I wanted to get some ideas on how you have implemented drains on your smokers. Right now, I just have a couple holes on the underside of the horizontal section (24" pipe about 5 feet long) that has a vertial box on the opposite the firebox. The problem is that I need to put pans down to catch the dr...

Exhaust Stack Length w/ Vertical CC

I read that I can use the height of the vertical cook chamber to act as part of the exhaust pipe length. Is this a one-for-one or is there a ratio that i can use to determine the size of the stack? I'm going to add a vertical chamber, a small one albeit, to a horizontal New Braunfels. This changes t...

Cook Chamber Transition Size

Can I assume that the transition opening between a round horizontal to a rectangular vertical should have the same measurements as the firebox opening to the main cook chamber? Or, is there an expansion ration to compensate for the heat expanding the air as it leaves the firebox? You know, I actuall...

I got this NB on Craigslist over the weekend for $25. There was some scaling on the inside but the outside was all surface rust. I'm calling it Rusty. Re: Flux core settings trouble

I finally figured it out. I ended up getting a couple more welding clamps to be able to move the ground a little closer to where I was welding although, I was only at about 18 inches away before. The voltage setting seemed to work well so I didn't change that. I did change the weld pattern I was mov...

Re: Flux core settings trouble

You're going the right direction. Make sure you have a very good ground. I've had that be the culprit on more than one occasion. Next - concentrate most of your heat on the thicker metal and zig over to the thinner metal to tie it in. This way you can keep your heat settings up and you'll get a bet...

Flux core settings trouble

Looking for help here. I have to do a vertical corner weld where one piece is 1/8 and the other is 3/16. I can't get my settings down enough to get a good weld. I can get a nice weld horizontal but I get too much splatter verticaly. I'm using Hobart 030 Flux core wire. I've watched some videos and s...

Re: RF build got a fabrication question

If you can get the firebox to the right location and use a laser pointer to trace it on the bell end. It's pretty much the same idea as the straight edge. Keep your scrap if it's a clean cut and depending on how you cut or assemble, you can attach it as the damper.

Re: Brisket: Fat Up or Fat Down

Depending on the type of smoker and how the heat flows through it, I'd always put the fat side toward which side (top or bottom) is hottest. I also make sure that the point is facing the firebox when using an offset since it can take more heat than the leaner flat.

Thanksgiving/Christmas Ham

I wanted to throw out the question on how much smoke flavor one of the store bought hams could actually pick up if doing the cook on the smoker. Since most of them are already pre-cooked and only need to be heated up, they already have a "skin" on them and would make it hard to penetrate and truly g...

Re: Sparta-Q Rib Cookoff in San Jose CA

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I purchased a larger smoker. Once I had the water pan on my old one, there wasn't enough room in the cook chamber without being creative. The smoker I have now works well for getting everything on that I need for most any competition. My goal is to scale up to ca...
