Re: Trailer bunks

I made some when I converted a cargo trailer to transport dirt bikes and camp in on race weekends, I opted for both up or both down. I found it best to find mattresses first and build frames to fit, I wasn't impressed with the mount to the wall types because they count on the screws to carry the we...

Trailer bunks

I'm looking to fab some folding bunks for my trailer. I have some [limited] experience with my cheap welder. So I'm capable but far from an expert. I'm shooting to have the bottom and top bunks fold independent of the other. For those with more fabricating experience than myself, looking for your op...

Re: Where to get heavy, straight side drum?

Any luck from anyone on where to look for the 16 ga. drum? I may pay to ship if it's not outrageous (I'm sure it would be though).

Re: Where to get heavy, straight side drum?

What part of the world are you residing in my friend. ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'm up in the cold north of Minnesota. I've found refurbs for $25 in my area that are straight side, but they have 18 ga. top and bottom and 20 ga. body. I'd definitely pay more if I could find some with 16 g...

Where to get heavy, straight side drum?

I've been scouring the web to find a source for a straight side 55 gal. drum in 16 gauge but I'm striking out. I've found some with a 20 ga. body, but I'd like the heavier if I can find it. Anyone got a lead for me?

Re: chimney length?

The thing that makes it a challenge is that this smoker needs to be mobile enough to roll in and out of my trailer for comps (I have a hand winch to pull it up the ramp) and it needs to roll on grass and pavement...hence tires. Any other ideas? I'm hoping my fender idea will be sufficient, but I'm d...

Re: chimney length?

Just a quick question, I noticed you have inflatable tyres on the FB, is it insulated? If not then you'll definitely have some grief when you first fire it up. I'm using the super cheap 10" wheels from HF just to roll it around right now. I plan to put on 13" tubeless wheels that can hold mo...

So would you go one long 6" stack or two 5" stacks?

chimney length?

I need help from you pros - I need to pick up the tubing to do the chimney on my build. Per the calculator, I need 1136.8 cu.in. of chimney volume: 4" dia = 90.51" long 5" dia = 57.93" long 6" dia = 40.23" long "Many horizontal smokers have an exhaust between 30-40 inches in length...if you are buil...

Firebox door handle

What are you guys fabbing for the door handle on your fireboxes? I'm pretty novice at this stuff, but I've seen the "Z" shaped rod, how are you securing that in the door so it rotates and locks the door shut?

Any other methods work well?

Re: Getting started: 275 gal. fuel oil tank

It is hard for me to imagine 3 racks in a 20" CC but hey maybe. I have a 20" and a 26" I only put 2 racks in each. I have 8"between them, I really only cook big stuff on bottom rack this allows room for super hot air to move across the meat on the top rack. jm2cw Making memories. Great feedback! I'...

Back from the dead!!

Oh man, it's been almost 8 months since I've made any progress on this build. Ugh! Of course, life got me busy - bbq comps in the summer, hunting fall/spring, then we moved back in December and I've been trying to catch up with all the new home projects ever since. I've come to the painful realizati...

Re: Getting started: 275 gal. fuel oil tank

Great advice Puff. I've seen your FB thread and I'll end up doing that still. Though, I wish I would have just done it ahead of time before putting the box together. I'll just have to do it when I cut out the door and can get inside the FB. For the wheels, I have about a 2 in. gap between tires and ...

Re: Getting started: 275 gal. fuel oil tank

Finally made some progress this weekend! This was my first time welding, but with a little help from family we were able to get the FB welded up to the CC. I didn't realize how big this FB was going to be! I got the rear wheels mounted, and the fronts are mounted on the tank legs temporarily for mob...

Re: UDS Build # 1

I don't use a flat lid on mine, I use the Weber kettle lids, but I would venture a guess that you still want the exhaust offset to one side vs. right in the middle. Otherwise your draft will pull too much heat towards the center of the drum and not enough around the sides...unless you use a diffuser...

Getting started: 275 gal. fuel oil tank

Well, this is my first post, regarding my first build. I guess I have built a few UDS's before, but it will be my first time ever welding and certainly the biggest BBQ project to date. I have a competition team in MN (The Docfather BBQ) and I've outgrown my barrels. I came across a free 275 gal. fue...
