Re: Insulated Cabinet Traeger Conversion

On the subject of the controller. I installed a PID controller from Auber some years ago now and have never looked back! Love the control and the temp stability.

Re: Insulated Cabinet Traeger Conversion

Watching this build closely as I am considering something similar. I want to take the Hopper assembly out of my Modified Traeger 075 and install it into a 32w x 24d x 45t (inside dimensions) insulated cabinet that I will build out of 1.5" square tubing.

Re: Cal Smoke's Mini Gravity Fed Build

I talk to Frank on the phone yesterday, he thought I should be OK stretching my CC by 6" vertically without having to change the firebox or smoke port. I may give up some high temperature ability, but I don't planning on high heat cooking on this anyway. I hope to finalize the firebox and ash box t...

Looking great Tim!! Keep the pictures coming. Can't wait to start mine but I have to pay off my new horizontal band saw first.

Re: Cal Smoke's Mini Gravity Fed Build

I'm curious about a couple of things, appreciate any input: 1. How are others planning to attach the outer skin? I've been thinking that I'd weld it, but it's a lot of linear seam (even with a couple of bends) to weld and dress neatly before painting. 2. Changes to the size of the cook chamber. I'd...

Re: SmokinDTown Mini GF Build

Ribs Looking Good!! In the pic above it looks like the cook chamber is welded to the horizontal 1.5" but the horizontal is not welded to the vertical. Just wondering what's up with that.

Re: Help me decide...

BTW all of the steel I quoted was Hot Rolled. Cold Rolled was almost double the price.

Re: Help me decide...

I just called in my steel order. I already have enough 1/2" plate and other misc stuff on hand. I rounded up to allow for waste. I had everything cut down slightly so it will fit in my truck and be easier to handle in the shop. They are pricing it out now, and will call me back to confirm I can pic...

Re: SmokinDTown Mini GF Build

Looks really good! Are you using ceramic blanket insulation in the tubing?

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/16/588795a7c9ac48f2b05e04e5bc86b201.jpg That Brisket looks great!! 205 is perfect. I just pulled a couple of Tri-Tips off my Traeger which I modified a while back with a PID controller. Cooked the tips at 220 to an internal of 145. Can't wait to start my mini bu...

Re: Cal Smoke's Mini Gravity Fed Build

Subscribed! Will be watching. Also I am going to call for a quote on steel Monday. I will share what my prices are compared to yours. Your initial quote seems quite high.

Re: Help me decide...

Hello Everyone, I have been lurking around here for a bit and have purchased a copy of the Double Pan and Mini GF plans. Frank let me just say these plans are awesome! Wish you would have been around some 15+ or so years ago when I built my first couple of smokers. Like CaliforniaSmoke I have some o...
