Re: Grill conundrums

I am really tempted to build something myself though. A charcoal grill that looks like a built in gas grill with a lid.
Was thinking it should have a drawer like charcoal grate that makes topping up and cleaning easier.

Re: Grill conundrums

I am building myself a Mini GF, but I want to get rid of my Gas Grill and switch back to charcoal instead. UDS is a smoker.
I was wondering if anyone here has built any custom Charcoal grill that are built in, else my other option would be a BGE or similar since I guess you can still grill on that.

Grill conundrums

Gents, I need to figure out what will work. The wife and I are planning on refurbing our back yard, this includes relocating my dinosaur pool (terrapins) and building a BBQ area that includes some kind of built in Grill and a counter top with a wash hand basin. I don't think I want another Gas grill...

Re: Newbie build - Mini GF

Before I put the insulation and skin the outside. Should I treat the inside with any type of rust protection?

Re: Newbie build - Mini GF

Stack, drain and intake done. To seal the thread on the firebox side, would instant gasket work? The stuff used in car engines. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170518/5034a23b120192d1d57271c7435b5394.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170518/b44673ef80070729c6d32ba22a6ccf4e.jpg https://upload...

Re: Newbie build - Mini GF

Uprights? Didn't see those in the plans. Don't see any need for them unless I am missing something.

I only had time to do the chute kerb. Cutting decent 45 deg angles with a grinder is time consuming.

Re: Newbie build - Mini GF

Welding the thicker stuff got frustrating, I think the welder's thermostat was cutting in as I was getting sputtering after a while, which was making things messy. My max amperage is 140 at 15% duty cycle, but where I am working is already hot, around 28-30C under the shed's roof. Sent from my IRON ...

Not yet welded in. Just getting a feel for the fit. Gonna need help fitting it once the chute is on.ImageImage

Guys, when I am at the point of skinning the outside of the smoker, should I plug weld the skin on?

Re: Newbie build - Mini GF

So the CNC'd bits arrived today. Now I can do the legs and firebox.

Got a pic of the grate, made from 12mm plate.

I'll upload pics of the rest as I weld them up.Image

Re: Newbie build - Mini GF

It's going painfully slow. 3 days of solid work, then 3 weeks waiting for the materials to get cut.
