Re: Full size gravity feed . Using Franks plans.

It is an 800lbs gorilla. Lol. Just been lasy on uploading the last few pics. I used 0.23 wire for the skin as it works a bit better then 0.30. I normally only use 0.30, but the 0.23 flows better when welding thin metal. I was able to get the corners to match up without over lapping. When welding it ...

Re: Gravity Feed Build Under Way

Good idea to label the plates. I did the same thing. I posted some pics on my thread if you want to look. P.S. I had the metal place cut all my heavy plate. I would work on making the pieces fit good, as its easier to weld them. The exception will be the fire box. Welding 16ga with a stick welder wi...

Re: Full size gravity feed . Using Franks plans.

Need to download the rest of the building photos. Its done !! I decided an ash tray is useless. The easiest thing to do is just put a pan on the ground and scrap the ashes into the pan. I found I needed to tap on the ash grate after a few hours as the ash was not falling through. It's super easy to ...

Re: Full size gravity feed . Using Franks plans.

Thanks Puff. As for cutting the frame, I wanted the firebox fully welded, including the C channel I found with it all welded you could not slip it under the frame rail and get the C channel to line up with the hole in the cook chamber. I was able to just slide it in place, plus it saved my back as t...

Re: Full size gravity feed . Using Franks plans.

Ok got the door clamped into position. The bullet hinges are a bit small. I'm going to weld on some wings The next issue is the slam latch, it not so easy to get the holes just right. Plus you need to find the rivnut gun that has been lost for more than a year. Plan B it's 10 times better. Take some...

Re: Full size gravity feed . Using Franks plans.

That might be tough as you would have to rotate the smoker so you could fill it without making a huge mess. Plus that stuff is expansive when heated Just looked, it would cost way more then mineral wool. I'm paying less than $1.00 a sq foot. I bought 70sq for $60. Note going back for a bit more as I...

Full size gravity feed . Using Franks plans.

I was contacted by a friend and they asked if I would build them a smoker. I told them to buy some plans as I did not have time figure stuff out. The plans are pretty good, could add some more details as your not fitting that fire box in as it shows. Lol see pics. could also be updated with optional...

Re: Stumps Clone Build for 2015

I'm in the final push to finish mine.
Question, do you insulate the inner wall next to the fire box. Was not sure if I left it uninsulate would that cause the cook chamber side closest to the fire box to be hotter.

Thanks

Re: Fire box rebar installation ideas

Sounds good on the Apple or oak. I stock piled a bit of each. It's been going slow, as I only get and hour or 2 on weekdays. But found I had to cut the frame to slide the fire box in. This was the easy fix to the issue. http://www.ihpartsamerica.com/forums/attachments/test-forum/27800d1443677246-tes...

Re: Cal Smoke's Mini Gravity Fed Build

I like the extra bend to make sure no leaks on the bottom. By accident I over bent bottom bend, but it works great as now I have a valley to collect drippings. I also raised the lower side about 3/8 in the back and dropped the front a 1/4". This gives it some slope to the front. I'm going to put the...

Re: Fire box rebar installation ideas

I did some searching and your right the charcoal grate should be removable. The plans have a drawing but no info other then use 6 10" rebar pieces I don't want to post a pic of the plans without permission first. I found a post where they made it removable. Seems like a good idea. The fire box is 1/...

Fire box rebar installation ideas

I bought the smoker plans charcoal chute smoker v2. Looking at the plans shows rebar.

Not sure how to install. Are people welding them in place? What if you need to replace later?

Fwiw the plans are not clear on this point
