They are rated at 140 lbs for each spring. I used the high temp springs also.

Hinges worked out great. Glad I did them instead of a counter balance.

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

Well after 3 months of building the smoker, I finally got to use it. Seasoned is Saturday and smoked 4 racks of ribs on Sunday for the first cook. Still have a few small things to do like a wood storage box, propane burner and door latches. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ekIhoxUKTMfANiJ0kTJ1ZMh1R...

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

It looks great and those shocks work like a dream!! I would put a bungee strap on the door while you are towing it because I've seen doors with heavy counterweights bounce open when you hit a big bump. I think I am going to add a set of horizontal toggle clamps for the bottom of the door so it won'...

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

I think I am finished...... I had a chance to hook up the lights and finished up some small things. Also put another coat of paint on since the wife didn't like the flat black look. Gotta keep the boss happy ya know. Next week is cleaning on the inside of the cook chamber and seasoning it. https://l...

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

Very close now...... I opted to go with two gas springs instead of a counter balance. I can now open the door with one hand now. Just have to do some final painting and attach the trailer lights. I should be seasoning it next weekend. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/EPfXM6WRlEKO6CfhFL0Xm2GN0EIcfqu...

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

Well I have a few more things on my to do list like fenders, lights and exhaust damper. I can't wait to finish up and get the seasoning process started. I do have 2 questions: #1 - I have a 8" square exhaust, any ideas on how to do the damper. I have a piece if 1/8" plate and I was thinking of putti...

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

Took a break from the smoker and worked on building the trailer and got most of it done. I went with 2x3 3/16 rectangle tube and a 3500 lb axle. It's gonna be fun mounting the smoker on the trailer. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/X9hl85UgJNviJhQxRopVmUAz0p42AWFyvz7EfUeyErdDSvThz5Ejq3lg0hfhvd5JD2H...

Re: New 250 gal RF pig smoker

Just a little update with the smoker. Going to start building the trailer next week. Went with 2x3 rectangle tube, 3/16 thick and a 3500 lbs axle. I just need more time, between coaching HS baseball, running a baseball league and work there isn't enough time...... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/y...

New 250 gal RF pig smoker

Hello all. I've been wanting to build a pig smoker for about a year now and finally got the tank to get started. I bought a set of plans from Frank to get started. I am looking for suggestions and have a few questions. I just got 2 sheets of 1/4" plate and got started on the firebox this week. https...
