Re: First build: some pics along the way

Used Felton's calc and ended up with a 71" CC, 23" SC. Grates and smoke stack are next. I'll post more when I get it back from the shop. Should be announcing my first smoke by Easter.

First build: some pics along the way

I'm about 3 months into my first build. Mostly a couple of hours a week here and there, but it 's coming along nicely. I don't weld or fabricate, self taught with equipment I purchased second hand. Pretty standard story I imagine. Here we go: http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160319/7aaa7ffb72be6f98...

Finishing up my first build.

Thinking about sanding the pit down to shiny metal and applying a poly coat.

Is there a poly coat that is heat resistant?

Or is paint my only real option?

Chose the millermatic. $450.00 got me everything you see and like someone just said, if I'm patient and do a good bevel job, it should be plenty of welder for me. I'm pumped! I'm pleased too because it seems like new and I have a dealer nearby if I have any trouble. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm also looking at a Hobart 210 MVP today. If you had to choose between the two is it a coin flip since they are essentially the same manufacturer?

Re: Just bought a Miller Thunderbolt and I think I am screwe

Well, its somewhat of a relief that you think I got a fair deal on everything. I jump them gun on the welder, which I'm inclined to do. I think I'll will repost the welder for sale and focus on finding the proper MIG for the job. That said, do you think I can complete the job weigh the Lincoln 125 H...

Just bought a Miller Thunderbolt and I think I am screwed

I do not weld. Currently obsessed with building my own off-set. Got two 150 gal tanks filled with water at the moment and now I am shopping welders/torch etc. Responded to a local ad Sunday, showed up at this very old gentleman house and saw the brand Miller and though " i cant go wrong". Paid $275....

Re: Questions from a noob

Fishless-

Thanks. You are correct, I'm at work on my phone so there you go.
I thought that was high for the unit.

Any thoughts on my question regarding the size of MIG I would need to complete the build?

Questions from a noob

I've was recent posts. Lots to say regarding brands. Very helpful. I am prepping to start my first build. 150 gallon propane tank. 24x84. I imagine it's 3/16 to 1/4 thick. If anyone has insight here that would be helpful. My question is what size rig do I need to weld this tank? I've looked around o...
