Re: UDS intake height

Few more things done on the drum over the weekend. Fabbed up some handles for the lid and sides. I used some 1/2" tubing and slip fit a 1/4" rivet nut insert into the ID of the tubing for the grabs then cut the rest out of some flat bar I had laying around. Also started on a cart, made it out of 3" ...

Re: USD intake height

Thanks guys, well got the drum together over the weekend enough to season it up and do a test burn. Man let me tell ya, I've read post on here talking about long burn times and set it and forget it but dang never thought it would run so good! I dumped about 3/4 of a 18lb bag of kingsford in the bask...

Re: USD intake height

I'm gonna try my best to get a good thread of the build going. Hopefully I dont get sidetracked, still have a list of stuff to finish on my RF lol!. I am seeing mp4 used the parts on his drum I didn't see any issues mentioned in his post from what I can tell. Always like getting advice when I can fr...

Re: USD intake height

Yeah Big T going to source would probably make sense [emoji2357] Haha. I did get the weld on intake tubes so no issues with room, guess I could be overthinking it a little given it's only 1 1/2 difference. Just wanted to throw it out there so see If anyone else did a build with all the fancy parts [...

UDS intake height

So I finally had some time to start my drum, going with all the parts from udsparts( baffle pinwheel, heat shield, 1 1/2 upright Intakes 2" exhaust. Laying it all out with the "napkin drawing done by Frank" I saw from other build topics on here. Its shows the intake height at 3 1/2 from bottom to ce...

Re: Fire management questions

Well I Did my brisket cook yesterday 13lb and 15lb packers. Started at 3pm cooked em until each hit 160 wrapped in butcher paper then back on, 13lb finished at 1am 15lb at about 3:30am. Despite some bad wind the pit did alot better this time. I ended up grabbing 2bags of Western brand hickory splits...

Re: Fire management questions

Yeah I had 2 in my pit when I did this burn Thermoworks smoke and my Maverick about 1in above grate level at either ends. Both were middle of the rack and read maybe 10 to 15 degrees higher at most compared to the door gauges. Same from end to end temp across maybe 15 degrees difference. I think alo...

Re: Fire management questions

Dirtytires not sure exactly how old the wood is, just some stuff I grabbed from a guy locally think he said a few months. I know 250 is a really good temp just wanted to see if I could make it happen. I do a lot on my Weber kettle at 275 and have excellent results so that's what I'm familiar with wa...

Re: Fire management questions

I was using oak and pecan, yeah I never even thought to touch the exhaust as thinking having it open would give it the best air draw but that makes sense.

Fire management questions

So I tried out my fire basket set up yesterday that I posted about a few days ago. I used.... (Frank's method from YouTube) charcoal chimneys and a few splits to get it going. Took about an hr or so to get it to 250 (I was shooting for 275) all vents full open fb door closed. So I threw more wood on...

Re: First fire in the pit

Pit looks good and so do the ribs. I don't know if a larger basket will help you or not, but either way you will need to play with it to figure out what works Thanks Chromeski, I think it was mainly how I had the other basket setup, too low and not enough air flow under my coals . It was pretty muc...

First fire in the pit

Finally seasoned the pit, then did a test run the next day to see how it ran. At this point I hadn't built my fire basket so I used one I had for my UDS build (modified slightly) which worked ok but not as good as I wanted. Did Frank's minion method with charcoals then threw some oak and pecan split...

Re: Finally back at it!

Thanks for the advice BigT! Actually that fire basket is for a UDS build I have planned I just threw it in there for looks but the one I'm building is shorter and wider so it'll work out like you're saying, also I'll probably go with a small table to left of the CC like you suggested. By the way I u...

Finally back at it!

After a few months of having other obligations to get done, I finally had a couple weekends free to get back to the reverse flow build! Getting close to finishing it up and trying out a test burn, but still trying to decide on a couple things. Almost want to just say the heck with it, figure that st...

Re: RE: Re: Door gap problems need some suggestions!

I don't know if you can trim it down or not but it would probably be pretty tough to cut. I use a regular fiberglass rope style gasket and glue it down with the red RTV. Yeah I was looking at the wrong stuff, found what you were talking about on bbqgaskets.com. They have so many different types to ...

Re: RE: Re: Door gap problems need some suggestions!

It works for me but if it doesn't work you can look in the fabrication section and scroll down until you see How to fix a sprung door(jack and chain method). I like to use the fiberglass rope gasket (3/8'' or 1/2'')on my curved doors, it takes up any small gaps that you might have. I glue the gaske...

Re: Door gap problems need some suggestions!

Thanks Big T ! Tried your link but I can't seem to get it to work. I've read some stuff on here about gasket application though but just briefly, guess that was an oversight when I started building this thing, too much in a damn hurry haha. So I might need a step by step how to on that as far as bes...

Door gap problems need some suggestions!

Welded on my CC door flange yesterday and when I closed the door down I have about an 1/8 gap on the right side corner and even less on the left. I cut the door out with a Metabo so I didn't think heat would be an issue and cause warpage but it twisted slightly. Guess it's just natural for it to mov...

Progress on the 20" x 48" RF

Finally got this thing rolling on its actual cart! FB is welded up to the CC just have to fab up the door and intake vents to it. Also got the CC door cut out and hinges are tacked in place. Next I'm going to flange the door, build a handle and weld in the baffle plate so far everything is coming to...
